Toledo Junior Challenge June 11-12, 2016

Toledo Junior Challenge

(June 11-12, 2016)

Never Give Up

On Thursday June 9, 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Ottawa Lakes, MI to host the Toledo Junior Challenge at the beautiful Legacy Golf Course. Sunshine was abundant on both days with temperatures in the 90’s on Saturday and 70’s on Sunday. The HJGT would like to thank The Legacy Golf Course staff for allowing us to host our Toledo Junior Challenge at a great venue. What was at stake for selected divisions were Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings and the winner in each division will receive an exemption into the 2016 Tour Championship invitation on Dec. 3-4, 2016. The top ten finishers also received points towards year-end honors, which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.

Round one started out as a close race between Jack Hanus, of Bowling Green, OH, Justin Schnebelen of Maumee, OH, and Ian Hilliker, of Clyde, OH. Hanus led by 4 strokes after the first round over both Schnebelen and Hilliker. At the end of round two, Hanus came in with a solid round of 3 over (75) to give him a total score of 153 for the tournament. That was enough to seal up the victory over Schnebelen by 9 strokes. It wasn’t an easy battle and it tested the will of each golfer.

The girls 14-18 had great competition between the top three contestants. Macy Hanus, of Bowling Green, OH had a solid first round finishing at 84, which put her in third place after the first round in her age division. She followed up a good first round with an even better socre of 73 in the final round. That put her at a total of 157 for the tournament and secured a 6 stroke victory over Lexi Knight of Sylvania, OH. Knight gave her a run for her money, but just couldn’t get over the hump. She had an impressive total of 163 and continues to take excellent strides in her golf carrer. This was an excellent group of girls to watch and they played well all weekend.
