Tampa Bay Junior Shootout
(May 20-21, 2017)
This weekend the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour headed to Dade County, to host the Tampa Bay Junior Shootout, at Lake Jovita Golf course. The temperatures were hot, with the thermometer reaching the high 90's. The HJGT would like to thank Lake Jovita golf and country club for allowing us to host our event at such a beautiful golf course. There was quite a bit at stake during this tournament for the top 3 finishers of each division. The top 3 finishers in each division would receive exemption for the 2017 National Championships on December 2-3, 2017 along with qualifying for the Mid-Season Invitational at Sea Island Plantation on June 11-13. The top ten finishers also were rewarded points towards end of the year honors, which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. Boys 16-18
Crimson Callahan walked away with the Boys 16-18 Division's title this weekend. Crimson, who is already committed to Western Kentucky University, posted a very impressive 70 on the first day of the tournament. Then, he fired off a solid 72, to be even for the day, putting him at -2 for the tournament. PJ Gehris came out with a second place finish, he posted the low score of the day going -3 on the day for a score of 69. Boys 14-15
For the Boys 14-15 division, our champion was Logan Hunter, out of Tampa, Fl. Logan shot a solid 72 for the day ending at +2 for the day and finished at +7 for the entire tournament. Close on Logan’s heels was Armand Loscalzo, who was also from Tampa. Armand had a chance to make it interesting, but getting three straight bogeys on the back nine stopped any chance of coming back. Boys 11-13
Our Boys 11-13 champion was Connor Pope, from Tampa. Connor, rattled off a very solid 74 for the first day, getting two birdies on the back nine. “The greens had a lot of slope in them, and made the putting very hard”, said Pope. He was able to battle through the difficult greens and come out as champion. Anthony Chen came in second posting a score of 152 over the weekend. Boys 10 U
Our 10U champion was Jack Roberts. Jack had six birdie opportunities on the back nine but only was able to capitalize on one of those opportunities. Jack put together a very impressive round on the first day shooting 77 on day one. Jack shot a 72 with two birdies on day 2, finishing +5 for the tournament. Thank you for coming out and competing Jack! Girls 14-18
Jennifer Jung, out of Orlando, had total control of her division for the two days. Jennifer shot 70 both days. Jennifer was quoted as saying “My goal coming into today, was just trying to get onto the green and two putt”, Jennifer was able to do just that and come away as champion. In second place was, Latana Stone, out of Riverview FL. Weather May 20-21, 2017 Round 1: Low:76, High:88 . Mostly Clear, Wind 5-10 mph NE Round 2: Low 76, High 88.
