Tampa Bay Jr. Shootout at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club

  On Thursday, May 19, 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Dade City, FL, to host the Tampa Bay Jr. Shootout at the beautiful Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. Sunshine was abundant on both Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the upper 80s. The HJGT would like to thank The Lake Jovita staff for allowing us to host our Tampa Bay Jr. Shootout out at a great venue. Theboys 14-18 champion, and girls 14-18 Top 3 received AJGA Performance Stars, while ages 14-18 boys and girls, as well as boys 11-13 and under 13 girls division’s top performers received Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking points. The top three winners in each age division were awarded an exemption into the 2016 Mid Season Invitational at Chateau Elan June 11-13, 2016. The top ten finishers also received points towards year-end honors, which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.  

Boys 16-18 Division

Round one started out as a close race between Sutthinun Sinsuntites, of Bradenton, FL and Gustav Tegel, of Wesley Chapel, FL. Sinsuntites was leading by 1 stroke after round 1 Jay Xu, of Wesley Chapel, FL was not far behind trailing Gustav by 1 stroke and Sutthinun by 2 strokes. After a bogey at 1 for Sutthinun to start off the final round, he went on to record 5 birdies on his way to an impressive round of 69. That put him close enough to close out Gustav and Jay who shot 76 and 77 respectively.

     

Boys 14-15 Division

Carl Corpus, of Valley, California and Jim Cai, of Bradenton, Florida both finished off a great round 1 coming in at a 76 on a very challenging course. With at least a four-stroke lead over everyone else, they battled the course for the final round of the tournament. Corpus started out strong making a birdie on the first hole as Cai also started strong recording 5 pars through the first 5 holes. Overall, all top three finishers finished strong on day 2. Coming in third place, Grayson Maddox, of Tampa, FL finished with a score of 77 for the day giving him a total score of 157 for the tournament. Cai finished with a total score of 75 on the second day, coming in at a total score of 15. That score was good for second place. Corpus finished first place with an unbelievable score of 69 making his overall total 145.    

Boys 11-13 Division

Some of the best rounds during the Tampa Bay Jr. Shootout happened in the Boys 11-13 division. The winner, Carson Enright, of Bradenton, FL shot an outstanding 70 in the first round and was able to match that score in the second round for a total of 140. Coming just ten strokes shy of Enright, Armand Loscalzo, of Tampa,FL. He had a great Saturday round of 77 and improved on that score in the second round shooting a 73 for a total of 150 for the tournament. Both Enright, and Loscalzo had a phenomenal round this weekend at the Tampa Bay Jr. Shootout at Lake Jovita and we look forward to seeing them play again with us soon.

Boys U10

Each player in this division was in contention after the first round with Aaron Dewitt, of Winter Haven,FL leading and both Cheqi Wu, of Bradenton, FL and Alexander Kauffman, of Sarasota,FL less than 10 strokes behind. But it was Dewitt with two clutch birdies on his way to a 76 in the final round to hold off Wu and Kauffman for the first place finish. A solid 163 total for the weekend.     

Girls 14-18 Division

The girls 14-18 was another great competition between the top three contestants. Priscilla Schmid, of Bradenton, FL had a solid first round finishing at 76, which was good enough for the lowest score in her age division in the first round. She followed up an excellent first round with an even better socre of 75 in the final round to finish at a total of 151 for the tournament. She secure the 2 stroke victory. Meiyi Yan, of Windermere, FL and Gabrielle Tomeo, of Bradenton, FL did not go down without a fight, both scoring a total score of 153 for the tournament. This was an excellent group of girls to watch and they played well all weekend.    

Girls U13

Things were tight after round 1 of this age division with the top 3 girls all within two strokes of each other. But it was Minny Byun, of Bradenton, FL who went low on Sunday with an outstanding 1 under 71, which allowed her to pull away from her competitors to take the victory. Ainsley Anne, of Apopka, FL was able to secure solo second place by one stroke with a solid final round of 80, which brought her to a total of 161 for the tournament.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
