The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Dade City, Florida from May 30- May 31, 2015 for the Tampa Bay Junior Classic. Top three place winners in all divisions received an invitation to the 2015 Mid-Season Invitational and 1st place winners in each age division received an invitation to the HJGT National Championship. The Girl’s 15-18 champion received 4 AJGA stars while the top three finishers each received one. Our girl’s 11-14 division champion winner received 1 AJGA star. Three divisions were ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard., the top ten finishers in each division received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup.
Oldsmar, Florida native Tyler Dierwechter walked away with the Boys 15-18 division crown with a three over, two-day total of 147. He finished one stroke ahead of Fleming Island, Florida native Drew Neilen and Odessa, Florida native John Milner who both finished with a two-day total of 148. Dierwechter, who is committed to play Division 1 golf next year at Stetson University, used an opening round 72 to propel himself past the competition and a final round 75 was enough to get him the trophy.
The Boys 13-14 division ended much the same as the Boys 15-18 with Connor Murphy of Land O Lakes, Florida finishing with a three over, two-day total of 147 as well. Just like Dierwechter, he also won by one stroke, this time over Palm Harbor, Florida native Thomas Salantino who used a final round 73 to finish in second. Bryce Walker of Bartow, Florida finished in third place with an eleven over, two-day total of 158. Murphy used three birdies on the back nine for a final nine 37 to get the one stroke victory and an invitation to HJGT’s National Championship.
There were only two players in our Boys 11-12 division this week in Dade City but Armand Loscalzo emerged victorious with a sixteen over, two-day total of 163. He finished seven strokes ahead of fellow competitor Brady Nipps who finished with a two-day total of 170. Both players hail from Tampa, Florida.
In the Girls 15-18 division, eleven year old Cindy Kou emerged victorious shooting a tournament low one under over the two days. After day one there was a three-way tie for first after Tori Higgins of Dover, Florida and Jennifer Jung of Orlando as well as Kou shot an opening round 72. Ultimately it was Kou, who shot a final round 71, who came out with the victory. Finishing in a tie for second was Julianna Collett of St. Simons Island, Georgia and Mami Yamamoto of Howey in the Hills, Florida who both ended with a two-day total of 147. Jordan Hodgson of Wesley Chapel, Florida won the uncontested Girls 11-14 division. She shot a twenty over, two-day total of 167. The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment.
