The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Orlando, Florida from July 2-3, 2015 for the Summer Classic Presented by Frogg Toggs at Eagle Creek. Winners in all divisions received an exemption into the 2015 Tour Championship December 5-6, 2015. Top 20 finishers received points towards year-end honors and AJGA PBE Stars.
Boca Raton, FL native Zachary Bariso squeezed out a victory in the Boy’s 15-18 division, shooting a two-day total of 143 to best Windermere, FL native Eric Berggren and fellow Boca Raton native Harry Brenner by one. Bariso shot under par both days on the Par 73 course shooting a day one 72 and final round 71 to finish three under for the tournament. It was a tight race throughout as 5 players shot within two shots of each other, but ultimately it was Bariso who proved victorious. This is Bariso’s first victory on tour this season.
Juan Cayro Delgado of Santo Domingo shot a two-day total of 138 for a tournament low eight under overall. He ran away with the first place prize in the Boy’s 13-14 division. On the first day after shooting an opening round 70 leading by eight. He continued this consistency to a final round 68 en route to an eight-stroke victory. Orange City, FL native Ethan Werblo finished in second with a two-day total of 146. This is Delgado’s first win on tour this season.
It was a tight one in the Boy’s 11-12 division but ultimately Connor Rippert of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla proved victorious, shooting a two-day total of 152, for the one stroke victory over Aaron Zhang of Lake Mary, Fla. Ripper shot an opening round 74 to separate himself on the first day and stayed efficient with a final round 78 to capture the victory. This is Rippert’s first victory on tour this season.
Maria Vesga of Howey in the Hills, FL went low for a six under, two-day total of 140 to capture gold in the Girl’s 15-18 division. It was a tight race however as Floridablanca, Colombia native Natalia Sarimento was hot on her trail ultimately finishing in second with a two-day total of 141. Sarimento had the lead after day one after an opening round 70 but it was Vesga’s final round 69 compared to Sarimento’s 71 that made the difference in the end. This is Vesga’s first win on tour this season.
Orlando, FL native Erika Smith captured the Girl’s 11-14 division with a one under, two-day total of 145 besting Howey in the Hills, FL native Maria Beatriz Arizaga by five strokes. After consecutive second place finishes by Smith in her last two HJGT tournaments, Smith stayed consistent to get her first crown. She shot 72-73 over two days with a low nine coming on the front nine with a 32 in her final round. Congratulations!
