Ferguson takes home first place
Uwadia leads the ladies
Jekyll Island, Georgia (October 6-7) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to tropical Jekyll Island this weekend to host the South Georgia Junior Classic. The event was held at the beautiful Jeykll Island Golf Club, on the Oleander course. The event featured over 50 players from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, including plenty of international players from all over the globe. This tournament was ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard. The weather was wonderful all weekend with temperatures in the mid 70’s and sunny skies. The Boys 15-18 Division was won by Ewen Ferguson, an international player from Scotland. Ferguson shot an impressive 68 on Saturday followed by a 73 on Sunday to finish with an overall score of 141. Coming in second place from Hilton Head Island was Zach Ruhlin. Ruhlin was shot a consistent 72 and 71 over the weekend respectively. Rounding out the older boys’ divison was another international player, Oliver Lehmann from Switzerland. Lehmann posted an overall score of 144 after a quality 73 and 71. Toks Pedro from Maryland led the group in most eagles with 2. Leading the group in most birdies with 8 was Ewen Ferguson. Ferguson also came in first with most par breakers, most pars or better, and our par 5 performance. Glenn Jones, a local from St. Simons Island, came in first with 26 pars. The par 4 performance was won by Zach Ruhlin. The Girls 15-18 Division was won by Anita Uwadia from Nigeria after shooting a 153. Uwadia shot a 76 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday. The girls division was dominated by international players as second was won by Chilean product Isidora Quevedo. Quevedo shot a close 154, right behind Uwadia. Tere Casasus tied Quevedo for second place with a 154 as well. Casasus was our third international girl to take home a trophy coming from Spain. Quevedo led the ladies with 1 eagle and our par 5 performance over the weekend. Julianna Collet, from nearby St. Simons Island, came in first with birdies with 4. Collett also led the field in most par breakers. Uwadia, our first place winner, came in first with the par 4 performance and most pars or better. SJ Bowers came in first in our par 3 performance. The Boys 11-14 Division was won by States Fort from Evans, Georgia. Fort had an impressive 68 on Saturday and a 71 on Sunday finishing with a 139 overall. From Martinez, Georgia, Hunter Dunagan came in second with a 146 over the weekend. Rounding out the younger boys group was Joseph Daniel Kim, also from Martinez, who shot a 154. States Fort led the boys in the stats field with 1 eagle, most parts or better, most par breakers, par 4 perfromance, most pars and par 5 performances. Golfers who participate on tour will compete in one of four age divisions: Boys 15-18 Division, Boys 11-14 and Girls 15-18 Division and 11-14 Division. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the southeast, with stops in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
