On Thursday, November 17, 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Miami Beach, FL to host the South Florida Junior Classic at the beautiful Normandy Shores Golf Club. The weather was perfect for golf with sun and just enough wind to provide the players with a challenge. The HJGT would like the thank the staff at Normandy Shores for allowing us to host our tournament at such an amazing venue.  Ranking points for year-end honors where up for grabs for the top ten finishers in each age group. The players forged onward to success with great enthusiasm against the challenging course layout.   Boys 16-18

David Rogers of Needham, MA is the Boys 16-18 champion. Needham used a solid round of 72 in the first round to grab the early lead and coast to the finish of the two round tournament at 147 (72-75). Troy Stribling of Jupiter, FL finished in 2nd with a two-day total of 153 (76-77).  The 3rd place trophy was awarded to Jonathan Filler of Fort Wayne, IN with a total of 154 (77-77). The players had a great time navigating a challenging course layout and competing against some of the best junior golfers in the country.     Boys 14-15

Preston Cedergren of Green Bay, WI is the champion of the boys 14-15 division. Consistency was key for Du as he posted two rounds of 78 and 79 for a 157 total to claim the title by two strokes. Michael Hauer Jr. of Naples, FL was the 2nd place finisher posting a final round 76 to climb the leaderboard and post a two round total of 159 (83-76). Reece Longwell of Bradenton, FL is the 3rd place finisher firing back to back rounds of 81 and 82 to finish the tournament with a total of 163.  The players competed valiantly and all left with smiles on their faces knowing that they had competed to the best of their abilities.   Boys 11-13

William Masuhr of Bradenton, FL is the Boys 11-13 champion. Masuhr built a big lead after a first round 73 and cruised to victory with a two day total of 156 (73-83). Max Fonseca of Miami, FL posted a total of 162 (82-80) over the two rounds to finish alone in 2nd place. 3rd place goes to Xiao Qun Zhang of Bradenton, FL who shot 89 and 88 for a total of 177. The boys had a fun time navigating through the course and showed maturity beyond their years in assaulting its many challenges.     Girls 14-18

Tori Bien of Hollywood, FL is the Girls 14-18 champion. Bien charged hard to the finish line Sunday closing with a 76 to give her a two round total of 156 (80-76) and the victory. Finishing in 2nd from Bradenton, FL was Luwei Zhu, who posted rounds of 86 and 82 to finish with a total of 168. Third place goes to Frances Melendez of Palm Beach Gardens, FL who shot a two day total of 169 (82-87). The ladies each enjoyed their experience immensely, while competing against the top competitors in the region.     Girls U13

Gabriela Mead of Miami, FL is the Girls 13 and under champion. Mead claimed the title by winning in a sudden death playoff, making par on the first hole. Mead shot a two day total of 167 (85-82). Guilia Lombardo of Bradenton, FL finished in second also shooting a two day total of 167 (83-84). There was a tie for third between Jiayi Chen (85-83) of Bradenton, FL and Sophie Anand (83-85) of Albany, The Bahamas with totals of 168. All of these young ladies should be very proud of how well they competed and represented themselves on the course.     Weather October 1-2, 2016 Round 1: Low 67, High 79. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
