Presented by HJ Glove at Coyote Creek
February 11th & 12th, 2017
On Thursday, February 9th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour arrived in San Jose, CA to host the San Jose Shootout, which was presented by HJ Glove. The tournament took place at Coyote Creek Golf Club, which is located just south of San Jose. Fourth-three junior golfers arrived early on Saturday morning eager to step on this Jack Nicklaus designed course and test their skills. The tournament consisted of six divisions: Boys 16-18, Girls 14-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 13 & Under and Boys 10 & Under. The entire field was tested each day from the strong winds that were ever present from sun up to sun down. Boys 16-18 Division

The Boys 16-18 Division consisted of eleven competitors this weekend, who were the first golfers to take on the difficult course. This division was led by Jin Kim from San Jose, CA. Even with wind gusts reaching 30 MPH, Jin shot a 79 on the first day and this score put him in the final group on Sunday. During the final round, Jin took advantage of the less windy conditions and shot a 73. This total of 152 earned Jin a victory for the tournament and an invitation to the HJGT National Championship that takes place in Orlando in December. Close on Jin’s heels was our second-place finisher, Caleb Shelter from Saratoga, CA. Caleb shot a division best 77 on the first day and he shot the exact same score on the final day. Caleb’s total of 154 earned him a second-place trophy and confidence that he can score well on a tough course with a solid field of participants. William Yao from Santa Clara, CA ended up taking third place with first and second round scores of 79 and 78, respectively. This two-day total of 157 was a mere three shots behind Caleb, which shows how close the final holes were. We would like to thank all the participants who were with us this weekend and we wish them all luck in their upcoming tournaments. Girls 14-18 Division

The Girls 14-18 Division consisted of seventeen players, which was the biggest division for the tournament. There were many talented golfers who had already committed to several Division 1 Colleges/Universities. Reisha Savadatti from Los Altos, CA and Lisa Marie Rudometkin from San Jose, CA needed two payoff holes to decide a winner. Both ladies ended with 36 hole scores of 163 and Reisha finished up in first place by winning the second playoff hole. The exciting finale shows how close the competition was and how talented these young golfers are. In third place was Noor Ahmed from Folsom, CA. Noor shot an 83 on the first day and an 84 on the second day for a final score of 167. We wish Noor the best of luck in future tournaments and at the University of Nebraska. Our fourth and fifth place finishers were separated by a single stroke. Grace Chen from Sunnyvale, CA shot a 169 to edge Alexis Browne, who shot a 170. Alexis is committed to Lehigh to play golf and we wish her the best of luck! Boys 14-15 Division

The boys from the 14-15 Division had a field of four golfers. At the top of this field was Moses Greene from Hayward, CA. Moses had a first-round score of 86, but came back strong on the final day and took advantage of the conditions and shot an even-par 72. The 158 total earned Moses an invitation to the HJGT National Championship that takes place in Orlando in December. Anay Rogue from San Ramon, CA came in second place with a grand total of 162. His rounds of 84 and 78 were very good scores given the wetness of the course and the strong winds. Coming in third was Sam Tarajos from Brentwood, CA. Sam shot a 96 on the first day and bettered that score with a 93 on the second day. Sam and his fellow competitors were fun to watch and each young golfer contains a lot of potential! We look forward to seeing these players again in future tournaments. Boys 11-13 Division

The Boys 11-13 Division's winner was Luke Powell from Laguna Niguel, CA. Luke was down two stokes going into the final hole and birdied the difficult par 5 to end up winning by one stroke! Luke shot an 80 on the final day, which was ten shots better than his day one tally. Coming in a close second place was William Bensch from Stockton, CA. William did a great job keeping both his rounds in the 80s, with rounds of 89 and 80. William ended up earning a second-place trophy and played very well for the entirety of the tournament. Coming in third was Isaac Flores from Salinas, CA. Isaac shot 100 and 94 for a two-day total of 194. Isaac had some booming drives and rolled in some long putts in the final round! Overall, it was a great tournament for these talented golfers and we look forward to watching them compete in future HJGT events! Girls 13 & Under Division

The Girls 13 & Under division consisted of four golfers. Skyler May from Stockton, CA had an outstanding tournament with rounds of 84 and 81. Skyler’s two day total ended up being 165 and she should be very proud of this score given the difficult course and the windy conditions. We also want to congratulate Skyler on an invitation to the HJGT National Championship that takes place in Orlando in December. Coming in second place was Ellie Sand, from El Dorado Hills, CA. Ellie shot an 86 and followed that up with a 92. Ellie played some great golf on a difficult course and we wish her the best of luck on her future tournaments! Kalea Hall from Salinas, CA came in third place with a total score of 191. She also played well on the hard course and notched scores of 95 and 96 for Saturday and Sunday. We want to thank all the participants and their caddies for a great tournament! Boys 10 & Under Division

The Boys 10 & Under division had four golfers and these four boys absolutely tore up the course! Aditya Das from Fremont, CA shot a 75 on both days for a 150 total. Edan Cui shot 76 and 79 for a score of 155. Andre Chung from San Francisco, CA shot 80 then 76 for a total of 156. Lastly, Matthew Almanjano from Fremont, CA shot 79 then 82 for a final score of 161. From top to bottom these kids had the most consistent rounds and they were exciting to watch! Aditya took home first place with his consistent rounds and we are happy to say he is invited to the HJGT National Championship that takes place in Orlando in December! Edan was right behind him and finished in second place. Edan controlled his shots through the wind and showed exception touch around the putting surface. Andre and Matthew came in third and fourth.
