On September 17th and 18th 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Saint Louis, MO to host the Saint Louis Junior Challenge at Normandie Golf Course. The course was full of eminence, adaptation, and prepossessing panorama. Saturday was graciously cool with junior golfers walking free of sweat from hole to hole. Sunday carried a gorgeous sunrise, and at 8:30 am, the golfers begin their hunt for the championship. Winners in all four age divisions will receive an automatic bid into the National Championship on December 3rd and 4th, 2016. The weekend was a bit competitive, and every junior golfer played their best to achieve maximum results. The upcoming weeks is expected to display many talents as the golfers’ progress in strength, skill, and confidence.
In the Boys 16-18 division, after two impressive rounds, Austin Hoerstkamp of Washington, MO took home the first place trophy. Hoerstkamp shot a first round score of 75 which early-on set him apart from the rest of the playing field. His two-day total of 146 edged him to victory over Chase Venn who finished with a 148. Chase Venn of Columbia, MO was ecstatic at the thought of winning this Hurricane Junior Golf event. It came down to the final hole which determined a winner for the 16-18 boy’s division. All of the participants had a wonderful time at Normandie Golf Course. Finishing with the best score, Hoerstkamp told our tournament director that he enjoyed the competitive playing field and wish to continue competing in Hurricane Junior Golf events.
In the boys 11-13 age division, Curt Hastie of Frontenac, MO took home the first place trophy. Hastie had a round one score of 84 and a round two score of 82. Hastie’s tournament total was 166. Kal Myers of Saint Louis, MO took home the second place trophy. Myers had a round one score of 80 and a round two score of 87. His tournament total was 167. Cooper Benedict took home the third place trophy. Benedict had a round one score of 85 and a round two score of 85. His tournament total was 170.
In the Boys 10U division, Savyasaachi Kandula of Chesterfield, MO took home the first place trophy. Kandula had a round one score of 95 and a round two score of 93. Kandula’s tournament total was 177. Kandula progressed from round to round as he scored better in the 2nd than the first. Kandula is an extremely talented competitor and looks to play more golf as he grows stronger.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18, and Girls 11-13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, California, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Louisiana, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and more.
