Inclement Showers in the Flower City
On October 1st and 2nd 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Rochester, NY to host the Rochester Junior Challenge at Ravenwood Golf Club. The course was full of blossoms, nature, and dampish fairways. Saturday was predictably condensing with junior golfers competing heavily before the rainy showers shared the course. Sunday began with a warming sunrise, and at 3:00PM, the golfers begin their journey for the championship. Winners in all four age divisions will receive an automatic bid into the National Championship on December 3rd and 4th, 2016. The weekend was full of mother nature, and every junior golfer played their hearts out to earn possible invitations into the December National Championships. The cooling weeks is expected to inquire many talents as the golfers’ train and compete for major championships. In the Girls 14-18 division, Sarah Cushing of Brockville, ON took home the first place trophy. Cushing shot a first round score of 82 which quickly separated her from the rest of the playing field. Her two-day total of 161 gave her the victory over Elena Lopez who finished with a 168. Sarah Cushing of Brockville, ON was quite humble at the thought of winning this Hurricane Junior Golf event. All of the participants had a wonderful time at Ravenwood Golf Course. Finishing with the best score, Cushing told our tournament director that she enjoyed the course and was surprised to have played so well due to weather conditions. In the Boys 16-18 division, after two remarkable rounds, Nicholas Oosterhof of Cobourg, ON took home the first place trophy. Oosterhof shot a first round score of 71 which quickly set him apart from the rest of the playing field. His two-day total of 149 edged him to victory over Gavin Simon who finished with a 160. Nicholas Oosterhof of Cobourg, ON was joyful at the thought of winning this Hurricane Junior Golf event. It came down to the final score card which determined a winner for the 16-18 Boys division. All of the participants had a wonderful time at Ravenwood Golf Club. Finishing with the best score, Oosterhof told our tournament director that he enjoyed the playing field and wish to continue competing in Hurricane Junior Golf events. In the Boys 11-13 age division, Anthony Maglisco of Syracuse, NY took home the first place trophy. Maglisco had a first round one score of 78 and a second round score of 34, which counted as a 27-hole score after a second round cancelation due to the troubling weather. Maglisco;s tournament total was 112. Yutaka Nohdomi of Toronto, ON took home the second place trophy. Kumar had a round one score of 77 and a round two score of 36, which also counted as a 27-hole score after poor weather late in the second round. His tournament total was 113. Phil Minnehan of Rochester, NY took home the third place trophy. Minnehan had a round one score of 77 and a round two score of 41 after 9 holes. His tournament total was 118. In the Boys 14-15 division, Jack Bailey of Pittsford, NY took home the first place trophy with an overall score of 115. Bailey shot a round one score 79, and a round two score of 36. Although the weather was a factor throughout the course of the tournament, Bailey attained his ability to defeat Ian Rivers of East Syracuse, NY by one stroke who shot an overall score of 116. In the Boys 10U division, Yuto Nhodomi took home the first place trophy. Nhodomi had a round one score of 95 and a round two score of 53. Nhodomi’s’s tournament total was 148. Nhodomi progressed from round to round as he scored strongly in the second round. Nhodomi told the tournament director that he would have played a lot better if the weather wasn’t a factor. However, he was quite joyful and excited about earning the first place trophy. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18, and Girls 11-13.
