Rochester Jr. Challenge Oct. 3-4

Victor, New York: (October 4, 2015). The beautiful Ravenwood Golf Club welcomed 20 junior golfers to the Rochester Junior Challenge. The course was in perfect scoring condition for both days of the tournament, but the weather was not. The players’ first rounds on Saturday were impacted by 40 degree weather that came with light rain and a constant cool wind. After playing in tough conditions on day one, the final round was greeted with perfect weather.  A beautiful sunny day around 60 degrees with a slight wind and the players took advantage of a very playable golf course. The winners in each division received an invitation to the 2015 Hurricane Junior Golf Tour National Championship. Additionally, the top ten finishers in each division received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.

Boys 15-18 Nick Oosterhof of Cobourg, Ontario shot a final round three under 69 to run away with the older boys trophy at the Rochester Junior Challenge. Oosterhof entered the final round with a 3 shot lead over Tom Dzwonczyk after Saturday rounds of 74 and 77 respectively. Both players bettered their Saturday rounds in the perfect conditions, but Oosterhof’s under par round just put the tournament too far out of reach for Dzwonczyk. Dzwonczyk fired rounds of 77 and 75 to finish in second place and Jeremy Sisson came back from an 86 to shoot 76 on Sunday and take home third. Oosterhof led the field in birdies with 9 in the 36 hole tournament and Tom Dzwonczyk led in par 3 scoring with an average of 3.1.

b 13-14 rjc

Boys 13-14 The boys 13-14 division was as competitive as it has ever been.  The top 3 players were all within 3 shots of one another heading into Sunday and it stayed tight all day. Jake Rivers headed into the final round with a two shot lead over Ian Rivers and Shawn Colella one stroke behind him. Ian Rivers started with 4 straight pars while Roach had two bogeys in his first 4 holes and the tournament was tied with 14 holes to go. Then Roach came back to take a three shot lead with nine to go and Ian did everything he could on the back to catch Roach as they both played their final three holes in one under. In the end, Roach held on for a one shot lead and took home first place in the 13-14 divison, with Ian Rivers second and Shawn Colella third.
