Farley Takes 1st Place Over Hickok on Hole 18
Symonds Propelled by Round 1 Score to Earn the Victory
Cary, North Carolina (March 3rd, 2013)- The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Cary, North Carolina this past weekend for the Raleigh Jr. Open. The Lochmere Golf Club hosted the tournament. Course conditions were slightly soggy due to a severe ten inches of rain that hit the region the previous week. The first day of the tournament was frigid but fortunately the winds were held to a minimum. The temperature stayed under 46 degrees throughout the day making it a cold and muddy first round. Sunday was even colder with winds picking up early in the morning. The unpleasant temperature fortunately did not hinder any tee times for frost delays. This tournament, as with all of our tournaments was ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard. Winners of all three divisions received an automatic bid into the 2013 HJGT Tour Championship. Critical points toward year end honors and the Hurricane Cup were distributed across each age division.
Luke Farley won the boy’s 15-18 age division beating out Robert Hickok by one stroke. Farley shot the lowest score on day one with a 75. After battling Hickok all of round 2 Farley was able to seal the win on hole 18 to end the tournament with an overall score of +12. Farley led the field with an astonishing Par 3 Performance shooting an impressive 3.12 average score for the weekend. Robert Hickok finished in second place for the tournament after shooting an overall +13. Hickok led the field in a number of statistics including a Par 4 average of 4.36, most pars at 25, and a par or better percentage of 72.2%. Ryan Chatt took third place with an impressive second day round of 74 giving him a tournament total of +15. Chatt also led two categories with most birdies at 5 and most par breakers at 13.9%.
Meghan Symonds took home the victory in the 15-18 girls division. Symonds posted the lowest round on day 1 with an 84. She also led the girls division in most pars at 16, most pars or better at 44.4%, and par 4 performance with an average of 4.77. Savannah Gowarty finished in second place for the division. Gowarty led in par 3 and par 5 performances with 3.62 and 5.83 respectively. Amanda Yannoni pulled out third place by shooting the lowest day 2 round at 83. Yannoni shot excellent par golf on the back nine to secure her round 2 score.
Nicholas Routhier dominated the boys 11-14 age division by posting a 76 on day 1 and 74 on day 2. Routhier shot the lowest round both days which secured his victory. Routhier led five of the seven major statistical categories including par 3, 4, and 5 performances with averages at 3.38, 4.23, and 5.00 respectively. He also led with 24 total pars and a par or better percentage through both rounds of 75%. Dustin Blank beat out Anderson Allgeyer for second on day 2 with an impressive score of 76. Blank led the field with most birdies at 4 and most par breakers at 11.1%. Anderson Allgeyer finished at third shooting consistent golf both days with equal rounds of 82. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the southeast as well as Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.
