Bariso outlast the competition
Tuccio holds on for win
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour made the postseason trip to Weston, Florida when they hosted the Postseason at Bonaventure on November 23-24. This postseason tournament was open to all junior golfers between the ages of 11-18. Being played at the beautiful Bonaventure Golf Club, the junior golfers played in beautiful weather for both rounds. An invitation to the HJGT’s 2013 Tour Championship was awarded to winners in all four divisions. In addition, winners also received a $50 gift card courtesy of Kikkor Golf.
Zach Bariso of Boca Raton, FL was victorious at the Bonaventure Country Club on Sunday. Bariso captured the title after shooting rounds of 74 and 78 over the weekend. Zach had a good start to the weekend by shooting even par through the first nine holes, however he had a few struggles on the backside with a bogey and a double bogey and finished the round two strokes over par. On Sunday Zach had a rough start to the day bogeying three holes and double bogeying the 4th hole. On the backside, Zach found his rhythm and finished without a bogey and picked up two birdies to finish the round strong. Ethan Cairns of Davie, FL finished 2nd after a strong final round on Sunday. Ethan had issues in the first round when he finished with five bogeys and a double bogey on the day for a first round score of 78. Sunday proved to be Ethan’s day when he made four birdies to finish the round at even par. Steve LaMay of Parkland, FL placed 3rd on Sunday after posting round scores of 74 and 78 on the weekend. Steve had a great round on Saturday and it would have been an even better round had it not been for the first hole which he double bogeyed, the rest of the round he made thirteen pars and two birdies. On Sunday, Steve had a much rougher day settling for 6 bogeys and a triple bogey for the round and just couldn’t get into any type of rhythm.
Jenna Tuccio of Marco Island, FL won the girls division at Bonaventure on Sunday. In the first round, Jenna did very well by making six par putts on the front side and then followed that up with another seven on the backside, all while only having three bogeys on the day. Sunday proved to be a much tougher day for Jenna as she bogeyed four holes on the front side and finished the round with seven all together; still it was enough to win the division. Julia Durkin of Miramar, FL finished tied for 2nd with Alexa Pano of Lake Worth. Julia had a good five nine holes on Saturday with 4 pars and a birdie, however she then bogeyed eight of the next nine holes and just didn’t get back on track. It was much the same for Pano that finished with eleven bogeys on the day and was able to manage just one birdie. On Sunday, Julia had eight par putts on the round but still had trouble during the latter part of the round bogeying four holes on the back side and only birdieing one. Pano played a little better with nine pars and two birdies that came on two of the last three holes.
Jonathon Cachon of Weston, FL won the younger boys division on Sunday, with round scores of 73 and 76. Jonathon had a solid round on Saturday with three birdies, eleven pars and four bogeys, three of which came on the front nine; on the back nine Jonathon settled down and only settled for one bogey. On Sunday, Jonathon had another good round that saw him have just four bogeys for the day with thirteen par putts which was good enough to seal the win. Daniel Core of Sorrento, FL finished 2nd on Sunday after two good rounds over the weekend. Had it not been for the 5th hole on Saturday, Daniel would have shot even par on the front nine and just one over on the back side, instead Core double bogeyed the 5th hole. It was almost the same story on Sunday except Core did shot par on the front side, however he faded on the back side bogeying five holes. Justin Jin of Windermere, FL placed 3rd on Sunday after having played well throughout the weekend. Jason had a tough start on Saturday bogeying four holes on the front side with only one birdie. Jason was much more consistent on the back side only bogeying two holes and parring the other seven. Sunday wasn’t as good of a round for Jason with six bogeys and one double bogey, yet it was still enough to secure a 3rd place finish.
