Phillips takes the playoff

Tardy strolls in tough conditions

Villa Rica, GA (March 3, 2012) After a heavy downpour that carried through Friday night and into early Saturday morning caused the Mirror Lake Junior Challenge to be delayed, the tournament ran without a hitch. Things got started on a shotgun start at noon on Saturday with play continuing on its regularly scheduled time Sunday. Golfers from all around the state of Georgia and Southeast braved the weather with representatives from Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and South Carolina in attendance. The Canongate at Mirror Lake staff members were great hosts especially when dealing with the less than ideal conditions on Saturday.   In the boys 15-18 division Andrew Phillips from Madison, GA took first place after beating Keith Egan out of Port St. Lucie, FL on the first playoff hole with a birdie. Phillips had a 2 day total of 149 (71+78) and was able to post a par or better percentage of 77.8, a key reason he was able to maintain at least a share of the overall lead through Sunday. Phillips also came in second with 24 total pars and a par 4 performance of 4.20 which was good enough for third overall. Egan, on the other hand, had the most birdies with a total of 8 and also had the best par 4 and par 5 performance posting a 4.10 and 4.75 respectively. Taking home the third place trophy was Ryan Stachler from Alpharetta, GA posting a 152 two day total consistently scoring 76 on both days. Stachler had 23 pars which was good enough for 3rd overall as well as a 5.00 average on all par 5 holes which placed him 5th overall. In the girls 15-18 year old division Bailey Tardy out of Norcross, GA finished on top with a two day total of 156 (76+80). Tardy had the most pars in her division (22), the best par 5 average (5.00) along with a 69.4% par or better percentage. Coming in second place, three strokes behind Tardy, was Eunice Yi from Evans, GA. Yi was tied with Tardy with a par 5 performance of 5.00 and finished with 20 pars which was tied for second. Rounding out the top three was Bella Skinner from Cumming, GA. Skinner posted 20 total pars and 3 birdies, both of which were good enough for third, for a tournament total of 160 (82+78). The boys 11-14 division played just as competitively as the older division’s. Hunter Dunagan (Martinez, GA) posted back to back rounds of 74 to finish at 148.
