Lee’s First Round Score Propels Win

Huntersville, NC (April 15, 2012) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Charlotte Junior Challenge this weekend at the Skybrook Golf Club in Huntersville, NC. Players traveled from many parts of the Carolinas and other areas to compete this weekend. States that were represented in the tournament include: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, and Ohio. The Charlotte Junior Challenge marked the first tournament the HJGT has hosted at the Skybrook Golf Club. Weather on both days proved to be excellent weather for golf. Saturday was filled with sunny skies and highs in the 70’s. Sunday turned out to be cloudy and cool with sunshine coming in the early afternoon with highs in the mid 70’s.  The Boys 15-18 Division first place trophy was taken home by Hunter A. Parks of Buffalo, SC.  Parks posted a two day total score of 151 (76+75). Parks had an impressive eagle on the difficult par five hole number eight. Parks also had a total of four birdies for the weekend with a majority of them coming in the second round. Along with the first place trophy, Parks had the only eagle in the tournament accompanied by the most pars with a total of 21 and the best par five performance average (4.50).There was a tie for second place between TylerMurphy of Charlotte, NC, and Cameron Suddreth of Wilson, NC. Murphy posted a two day total score of 157 (81+76). Murphy managed to have three birdies in his second round to improve his score but it was not enough to get him the first place trophy. Suddreth also posted a two day total score of 157 (80+77). Both Murphy and Suddreth battled all weekend to stay in contention for the lead and as a result they both had close finishes to tie them for second place.  In the Girls 15-18 Division, Rachel Lee of Woodstock, MD,  won first place by posting a two day total score of 158 (75+83). Lee’s impressive first round score proved to be what gave her the boost she needed to take first place. Lee posted three birdies in her first round of play while also leading the field in multiple categories including: most birdies (3), best par three performance average (3.38), best par four performance average (4.45), and the best par 5 performance average (5.25). Coming in at second place was Stephanie Horvath of Medina, OH. Horvath posted a two day total score of 164 (87+77). Horvath had the most pars with a total of 20, along with the most pars or better (58.3%). Morgan Zemaitis of Charlotte, NC, took home the third place trophy by posting a two day total score of 172 (83+89). In the Boys 11-14 Division, Bennett McCarron of Dacula, GA, took home the first place trophy. McCarron posted a two day total score of 164 (83+81)). McCarron had a total of three birdies, and also had the best par three performance average (3.62), and the best par five performance average (5.00). Stephen Carroll of Concord, NC, took second place by posting a two day total score of 166 (86+80).Nicolas Principi of Huntersville, NC, finished third with a two day total score of 167 (85+82).
