Driving to Success


On Thursday, September 29, 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Lake Mary, FL to host the Orlando Jr Shootout at the beautiful Timacuan Golf Club. The weather would not keep the players down as rain was forecasted for both days in the afternoon. The HJGT would like the thank the staff at Timacuan Golf Club for allowing us to host our tournament at such an amazing venue.  AJGA stars where up for grabs this weekend and the top ten golfers also received points towards year-end honors. With enthusiasm previously unknown to mankind the players forged onward to success against the unyielding forces of nature and challenging course layout. Boys 16-18  


Bo Peng of Lake Mary, FL was the Boys 16-18 champion. Peng used a scintillating 63 in the first round to grab the early lead and coast to the finish of the two round tournament at 137 (63-74). Kamaren Sandhu of Winter Garden, FL finished in 2nd with a two-day total of 141 (72-69).  The 3rd place trophy was awarded to Johnny Bai of Lake Mary, FL with a total of 144 (73-71). The players had a great time navigating a challenging course layout and competing against some of the best junior golfers in the country.   Boys 14-15  


Aaron Du was the champion of the Boys 14-15 division. Consistency was key for Du as he posted two rounds of 73 for a 146 total to claim the title. Michael Hauer Jr. of Naples, FL was the 2nd place finisher after having the first round lead with an opening 70 and a two-day total of 151 (70-81). Danny Nguyen of Windermere, FL was the 3rd place finisher firing back to back rounds of 76 to finish the tournament with a total of 152.  The players competed valiantly and all left with smiles on their faces knowing that they had competed to the best of their abilities.   Boys 11-13  


Andrew Clark of Winter Park, FL was the Boys 11-13 champion. Clark closed strong with a final round 69 to capture the title by one stroke, firing a two-day total of 143 (74-69). Brendan Valdes of Orlando, FL posted a total of 144 (73-71) over the two rounds to finish alone in 2nd place. 3rd place goes to Aaron Zhang of Lake Mary, FL who shot a pair of 73’s for a total of 146. The Boys had a fun time navigating through the course and showed maturity beyond their years in assaulting its many challenges.   Boys U10  


Ethan Keen of West Palm Beach, FL was the Boys under 10 champion. Ethan won the event posting a two-day total of 172 (88-84). Ethan attacked the course with a youthful vigor that left spectators and fellow competitors impressed. Surely this will not be the last time we hear young Ethan’s name in the winner’s circle at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour.   Girls 14-18  


Mimi Chen of Longwood, FL was the Girls 14-18 champion. Chen charged hard to the finish line Sunday closing with a 69 to give her a two round total of 145 (74-69) and the victory. Finishing in 2nd from Windermere, FL was Tianyi Zhuang, who posted rounds of 75 and 76 to finish with a total of 151. There was a tie for third between Skylee Shin (78-76) of Doral, FL and Alysza Moya (76-78) of Winter Garden, FL. The ladies each enjoyed their experience immensely, while competing against the top competitors in the region.  Girls U13



Menglu Zhu was the Girls 13 and under champion. Menglu Zhu of Bradenton, FL emerged from a clustered first round leaderboard, posting a final round 78 to claim the title with a total of 164 (86-78). Finishing in a tie for 2nd with totals of 174 were Sophie Anand (86-88) of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Morgan Rodriguez (86-88) of Delray Beach, FL. Finishing in 3rd for the Girls 13U is Aileen Kang of Kissimmee, FL who posted rounds of 89 and 91 for a total of 180. The girls displayed tremendous fortitude and acuity while trekking through the difficult course layout in the Florida heat.   Weather October 1-2, 2016 Round 1: Low 71, High 91. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
