Northern California Junior Classic
(July 8-9, 2017)
On Thursday, July 6th, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Livermore, CA to host the Northern California Junior Classic at the beautiful Poppy Ridge GC. The players battled through a hot and windy Saturday to find sun and lower scores on Sunday. The tough weather and course conditions did not deter the players. There was a lot at stake at this tournament including the top three from each age division receiving exemption into the 2017 National Championships. The top 10 finishers in each division will receive points towards year end honors which include All State Teams, All HJGT Teams and the Hurricane Cup.
Boys 16-18

Woojin Gallo of Walnut Creek, CA was the Boys 16-18 winner. His two-round total of 146 (72-74) allowed him to run away from the field. Oscar Zimmerman of Cincinnati, OH came in second. Zimmerman’s total of 152 (77-75) lead to a second-place finish. In third place was Ethan Manalo of San Francisco, CA. Manalo’s two-day total of 154 (80-74) gave him a third-place finish. The entire Boys 16-18 field played well and battled all weekend. Boys 14-15

Jalen Xing of Cupertino, CA was the Boys 14-15 winner. Xing’s two-day total of 152 (77-75) gave him a three-shot victory. Second place was a tie between Collin Yee of Davis, CA and Eric Kwak of Walnut Creek, CA. Yee had a total of 155(78-77) and Kwak had a total of 155 (78-77). The entire Boys 14-15 field had a lot of fun on the course this weekend. Boys 11-13

Gregory Lee of San Jose, CA was the Boys 11-13 winner. Lee had a two-day total of 148 (76-72) to claim the victory. In second place was Aditya Tadimeti of Palo Alto, CA. Tadimeti’s total of 149 (73-76) lead to a second-place finish only 1 shot off the lead. Jeremy Yun of Palo Alto, CA finished third. Yun’s two-day total of 159 (79-80) lead to a strong third place finish. The entire Boys 11-13 field played very well and demonstrated great skill throughout the weekend. Girls 14-18

Katie Murphy of Pleasanton, CA was the Girls 14-18 winner. Murphy had a two-day total of 155 (80-75) to win by 3 strokes. Jordan Briggs of Livermore, CA finished second. Briggs had a total of 158 (78-80) to claim second. Madeline Zunino of Stockton, CA finished third. Zunino had a total of 160 (82-78) to finish third. The entire field was competitive this weekend and only a handful of strokes separated the entire field. Girls 13U

Athena Nguyen of San Jose, CA was the Girls 13U winner. Nguyen’s total of 150 (73-77) led to a 5-shot victory. Stella Cheng of Fremont, CA finished second. Her two-day total was 155 (78-77). Both players in the girls 13U field played incredibly during both rounds and seemed to be having a fun time out on the course. Boys 10U

Edan Cui of Loss Altos Hills, CA was the Boys 10U winner. Cui had a two-round total of 155 (77-78) to win by 1 stroke. Jonathon Chen of Carmel, CA came in second. Chen had a total of 156 (81-75) to finish a close second. Coming in third was Abhi Patel of Walnut Creek, CA. Patel’s total of 179 (89-90) propelled him to a third-place finish. All the boys 10U players had a great weekend and scored well all weekend.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
