No. Cal. Jr. Classic - April 16-17

Northern California Junior Classic at the Reserve

Locked in at Stockton

On Thurs., April 14th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Stockton, Calif., to host the Northern California Junior Classic at the Reserve at Spanos Park. With some beautiful weather in the forecast, the kids were ready to make their mark on the tour’s Northern California Junior Classic in Stockton, California. The weather for the tournament days couldn’t have been better. Saturday’s weather was sunny with a breeze, which made for a great way to start out the tournament. The weather stayed the same on Sunday, making it beautiful for some golf. On both days, the field of players received near ideal conditions, minus some windy spurts during the day, which led to great scoring. The HJGT would like to thank the Reserve staff for allowing us to host our Northern California Junior Classic at a great venue. Winners in each division received invitations to the HJGT Tour Championship on Dec. 3-4. Top three in each division also received an invitation to the Druh Belts Mid Season Invitational on June 11-13. Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking was available for all divisions.

Nathan Leung

Nathan Leung[/caption] Nathan Leung of Pleasanton, Calif., took home the first place trophy for the Boys 16-18 division. Leung played very consistent, shooting a 75 for both rounds. Leung carded seven birdies for the weekend, including three in his final five holes in round one. Leung’s victory came by a slim margin, as he made par on No. 18 while Chase Godi made bogey to separate the two by one stroke. Godi, another Pleasanton native and a winner on the HJGT, shaved off five strokes off of Saturday’s total to post 73, the low round of the division. There was a two-way tie for third place out of 11 between Californians Spencer Chamberlin (77-76) of Diablo and Blake Mitchell (78-75). Leung was the division’s birdie leader with seven. Leung and Mitchell also tied for the longest bogey-free streak in the division at eight holes.

Brian Stark

Brian Stark[/caption] The first place finisher for the Boys 14-15 division was Brian Stark of Kingsburg, Calif. Stark had a great start to the tournament with a 70 in round one and sealed up the top place spot by posting a 74 in round two to post the low score of the tournament. Stark rolled in nine birdies and only had one hole worse than bogey en route to his second HJGT victory. Trey Davis of Olivehurst, Calif., took home silver after shooting a four-over-par 148 for the tournament. Competing from the same yardage as the 16-18 division, Stark’s and Davis’ scores would have won in the elder division. Taking third place out of seven was Garrett Boe of Clovis, Calif., who shot scores of 80 and 78. Stark’s nine birdies led the division. Stark and Davis tied for the longest bogey-free streak in the division at 13.
