The Hudson Valley Experiences a Hurricane
On Sunday, July 24 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour arrived at the picturesque Garrison Golf Club. There was plenty of sunshine to go around on Monday and Tuesday with temperatures ranging from the mid 80’s to low 90’s. The tour would like to thank The Garrison Golf Club for letting us host our tournament at their wonderful course The top ten finishers in each division will receive points towards the Hurricane Cup. Additionally, the winner of each division will be invited to play in the National Championship held in Orlando, Florida in December. The golfers came to the first tee ready to conquer the tough challenges of the course and they did not disappoint.
Jordan Sanyshyn from Brewster, NY was crowned champion of the boys 16-18 division. Sanyshyn was tied for the lead after day 1 with a score of 77. Sanyshyn, thanks to 5 birdies, posted a day 2 score of 71. Finishing with a tournament score of 148. He was the only player across all divisions to post a round score below par. Alan Zhu from Columbus, Ohio finished in second place with a two day total of 156. Jack Boyland from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida finished in third place with a two day total of 158. Sanyshyn set the longest bogey free streak at 10 holes. Sanyshyn played well the first day, but really hit his stride on day 2.
In the boys 14-15 division Alexander Keener from Bethpage, NY took home the championship trophy. Keener trailed the leader by 5 strokes after day 1. He rebounded by posting a round 2 score of 82, winning the tournament by 1 stroke with a two day total of 172. Edward Watson from White Plains, NY took home the second place trophy with a two day total of 173. Brandon Whitley from Huntersville, NC took home the third place trophy with a two day score of 176 for the tournament. Whitley had the most birdies with 2. Keener was the leader in total pars with 16. The course was difficult, but the players persevered and put some great rounds together.
Two players made up the field for the boys 11-13 division. Benjamin Cai of Columbus, Ohio won the head to head matchup. Cai had 2 birdies on day 2, he rode that momentum to the title. Bijah LaFollette from New York, NY finished as runner-up with a score of 200. LaFollette managed to birdie the 17th on day two, the first birdie of his Hurricane career. The boys achieved many milestones this week.
Alexandra Sazhin from New Fairfield, CT posted a two day total of 153, she is the champion of the girls 14-18 division. Sazhin had a terrific couple of days, posting two scores in the 70’s with 4 total birdies. Caitlin Tully from Brewster, NY finished in second place with a two day total of 168. Claire Monahan from Port Chester, NY finished in third place with a two day total of 198. Sazhin went 6 straight holes without a bogey in round 2. The girls hit it off from the first tee, they really enjoyed their time playing together.
Dane LaFollette from New York, NY was the only member of the boys U10 division. He took his crown by posting a two day total score of 216. Dane finished with 3 total pars and 1 birdie. Dane is a very energetic young player, and a joy to watch.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
