Kissimmee, Florida: (December 6th, 2015). The 2015 Hurricane Tour came to a close today in Kissimmee, Florida where ChampionsGate Country Club played host to our Girl’s National Championship. The weather was beautiful both days, but came with strong winds that made the closing holes of the golf course more and more difficult the later in the afternoon the players got there. This tournament featured the best girls from around the country and the competition was tighter than anyone could have imagined. Going into Sunday nearly 12 girls were within two shots of the lead in the older girls division and the younger girls saw one girl lead the entire tournament to claim her first national championship.
Girls 15-18 Heading into Sunday a quarter of the field still had the opportunity to win the national championship and 18 holes on Sunday would not be enough to decide the champion. Six girls tied for first place with a total score of 145. Those six girls, Anne Yu, Jenny Kim, Savannah Satterfield, Wenyan Ma, Auston Kim, and Erika Smith headed to the first hole for the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s first ever 6 person playoff to decide the national championship. All six players hit solid drives on the first hole and then all surrounded the cup with their approach shots to the green, but two players would birdie the hole to eliminate the four others and continue on to the next hole. From there Anne Yu and Wenyan Ma went on to play 4 more holes of incredible golf. Both players had their chances to win and tough puts to stay alive, but a missed fairway decided the tournament. On the short par 4 5th hole Wenyan Ma missed the fairway in a bunker left and 14 year old Anne Yu won the playoff with a par and became the National Champion.
Girls 11-14 13 year old Britta Snyder of Ames, Iowa had won her two appearances on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour heading into the National Championship and although she had to work for it, Snyder kept her record perfect and became a 3 time champ with a National Championship trophy. Snyder entered the final round with a one shot lead over Anna Chen which would prove to be the difference for the tournament after both players shot two under rounds of 70 on Sunday. They were tied for the lead with four holes to go and Britta Snyder would par the difficult finish out to win by one shot. Juli Camargo finished third after having the round of the tournament on Sunday with a three under 69. Congratulations to all of the players in the National Championship on their great play all season long and we cannot wait to see everyone next year!
