HJGT National Championship: Boys 16-18
(December 3-4, 2016)
On Thursday, December 1st, 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Kissimmee, Florida to host the National Championship. The National Championship for Boys 16-18 was held at The Legends at Orange Lake. Sunshine was abundant throughout the day, however mornings were quite chilly. Temperatures started in the 50s and reached the low 80s in the afternoon. The HJGT would like to thank The Legends at Orange Lake staff for allowing us to host our tournament at a great venue. The tournament field was open to all Boys 16-18 division players who have been invited based on performance, points leaders, special exemptions, and staff invites. Boys 16-18 Top 3 Finishers

Boys 16-18 Tournament Summary
Dawson Lewis of Flower Mound, Texas was the National Champion of the Boys 16-18 division. Lewis was able to take home the first place trophy after going into a playoff with Dragon Theam of Jacksonville, Florida. Lewis and Theam both shot a total score of 147, and ended up going back to the 18th hole to decide who was going to be the National Champion for the Boys 16-18 division. Dawson Lewis ended up making a 8 foot birdie putt to seal the deal. Lewis shot an impressive -1, 71 the first round and a 76 on Sunday. Theam shot a nice +3, 75 the first day and finished strong on Sunday shooting even par, which gave him a chance at finishing on top. Let’s not forget the third place finisher, Nick Bessire who had a fantastic final round. Nick shot an impressive -1, 71 but just came up short shooting a total of 148. All in all, the National Championship for the Boys 16-18 division was very entertaining and we would like to thank all the players for participating!

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
