National Championship at the Reserve at Orange Lake

(December 3-4, 2016)

The Reserve Course at Orange Lake played host to the players of both the 11-13 Boys division and the Boys 10U division over the course of a beautiful weekend in early December. HJGT players from all over the country competed throughout the year to earn the right to play in this prestigious event. They flocked from their respective cities far and wide to take on the best competition in hopes of taking the national championship crown back to their hometown. The season long build up to this event did not disappoint.   Boys 11-13 Division

In a field with 67 players, Evan Reed of Shelbyville, TN had no trouble sifting through the competition on day one to put himself into a prime position for Sunday. He would be joined in the final Sunday grouping by Frankie Harris of Lighthouse Point, FL and Brendan Valdes of Orlando, FL. Frankie came in as the day-one leader after shooting an impressive -3 under 68. Brendan led the field with ten birdies over the course of the tournament, and he would need every one of them to keep up with Evan Reed. The two of them went back and forth on Sunday afternoon, trading good shot after good shot. 36 holes would not be enough to decide a winner. Evan and Brendan had to head back to the first tee for one more hole to decide a true National Champion. Evan’s par would be just good enough to earn him the crown with an impressive two-day total of 138. Frankie would finish just one stroke behind his playing partners carding a two-day score of 139 to take home third place. All of the players enjoyed the competitive environment and many players walked away from the tournament with new friends from all over the country. We look forward to seeing them again next year. . Boys U10 Division

The Boys U10 division was comprised of 23 players representing 11 different states. It did not take long for these players to showcase how they got to this tournament. The field combined to shoot an impressive 291 pars and 42 birdies over the two-day span. Taking credit for 11 of those birdies was Gavin Fleming of Jacksonville, FL. As one would assume, he would go on to take home the first place prize, carding a 74,70,144 on the weekend. Coming in second place was Patman Malcom of Alpharetta, GA. Patman had a very good two day score after recording the lowest score on day one with a one under par 70. Rounding out the top 3 was Asher Joseph of Melbourne, FL who carded a tournament total of 152. This group of guys lead a competitive field who seemed to be really enjoying the spotlight this weekend. We can rest easy knowing that the future of golf is in their hands.    Weather: December 4-5, 2016:
