Nashville Junior Challenge

Swinging to Victory
On Thursday, July 28, 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Dickson, TN to host the Nashville Junior Challenge. Sunshine and a little bit of rain were abundant on both Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the upper 80s. The HJGT would like to thank the Greystone GC staff for allowing us to host our event out at a great venue. The boys 14-18, boys 11-13 and girls 14-18 top performers received Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking points. The top three winners in each age division were awarded an exemption into the 2016 National Championship at Champions Gate in Orlando, FL. The top ten finishers also received points towards year-end honors, which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.
Boys 16-18 Division
Round one started out as a close race between Blain Turner of Mount Juliet, TN and Trey Tobias, of Franklin, TN. Turner was leading by 3 strokes after round 1 by shooting an impressive 2-under par 70 and Tobias was not far behind shooting a 1-over par 73. At the end of the second round Turner came in with another 70 to give him a two day total of 140 to take first place. Tobias added to his consistent play from round 1. His second round was a 73, which gave him second place. Coming in a four-way tie for third place were Bennett Noe, Zachary Young, Ben Harris, and Justin Johns. They all finished the tournament with 150. Congratulations to these guys and we wish them luck for the rest of the summer.
Boys 14-15 Division
The most excitement of the tournament happened in the Boys 14-15 division. The winner, Addison Carney, of Franklin, TN shot a great score of 150 for both days and ended up winning a 4-hole playoff against Drew Howard of Brentwood, TN. Both players went back and forth making pars on the first three holes until Addison was able to make a 4th par to secure the victory. Coming just three strokes shy of first and second place was Luke Smith, of Covington, TN. Luke shot rounds of 79-74 to land him the third place trophy.
Girls 14-18 Division
The first round for the girls 14-18 division was a battle between four players. Lucy Suo, Shelly Jang, Cameron Waltman, and Skylee Shin all shot rounds of 78 to be tied heading into round 2. Suo ended up taking the title after shooting a strong score of 76 in round 2. Only three strokes back was Jang finishing the tournament with a 79 and there was a two-way tie for third place between Waltman and Shin who both shot 81 on Sunday. Congratualations to Avery and we wish her the best of luck throught the rest of the summer.
There were five boys in the boys 11-13 division and a familiar face ended up taking the title this weekend. Evan Reed of Shelbyville, TN shot very impressive rounds of 70-75 to win by seven strokes. Right behind him was DeWitt Thompson of Bradenton, FL shooting great scores of 74-78 to take solo second place. The battle for third place was decided by one stroke and Riley Grindstaff of Franklin, TN shot a two-day total of 158 to claim the trophy. Congratulations to our top three winners and we wish them luck the rest of the year.
With only two boys in the boys U10 age division, both boys had a great tournament and had a lot of fun. Luke Beadles of Nolensville, TN shot a 182 for both days and Laird Williams of Franklin, TN shot a 198. Both players battled tough wind and some light rain, but enjoyed playing together and were all smiles come Sunday. Congratulations to each of these boys and we wish them luck the rest of the summer.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
