Hall and Green go low in Music City
Dickson, TN: (May 24, 2015) The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Dickson, TN on May 23-24 for the Nashville Junior Shootout. Saturday’s round began right on time at 11:00 AM with beautiful weather and eager junior golfers. The weather was even better Sunday, with clear and sunny skies and temperatures in the high 70’s. Add this to the fact that GreyStone Golf Club was beautiful and immaculate, setting the stage for an amazing two rounds of golf. Trophy winners in all four divisions received an invitation to the 2015 Mid-Season Invitational and winners additionally received an invitation to the 2015 HJGT National Championship. Also, the top ten finishers in each division received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.
The Boys 15-18 Division was a tight battle both days at GreyStone. The second round saw Brentwood, TN’s Buzz Cobb (151) fight eventual champion, Madisonville, KY native, Trevis Bell hole for hole, leading to an exciting finish through the final stretch. Cobb entered Sunday’s round just 3 strokes behind Bell and eliminated mistakes early to climb into the lead by Sunday’s 8th hole. However, birdies late from Bell and trouble on the pesky par 3, 16th hole would force Cobb to settle for second. Bell carded a personal season-best 149, with scoring averages of 3.0, 4.2, and 5.2 on par 3s, 4s, and 5s, respectively. Quinn Eaton, the 3rd place finisher from Benton, KY, was tied for the lead after his first round 74, but was unable to maintain the pace in the final round. He began the weekend with a stellar 5 birdies on Saturday, but would only card one on Sunday on his way to a 153. Congratulations to Trevis on his first win of the season! Girls 15-18
The 15-18 girls posted excellent numbers through the first day to set up an exciting final round. Rheagan Hall and Cayce Hendrickson carded matching 75s to open up a 6 stroke lead over the field. Hendrickson, of Benton, KY, struggled early in the final round and would finish with 157. On the other hand, Hall (154), of Charleston, TN, played consistently on the front nine and added back to back birdies on 12 and 13 to build her lead. The eventual champion would lead par 3 scoring with a 3.0 average and par 5 scoring with a 5.0 average. Her counterpart Hendrickson held the par 4 scoring lead with an average score of 4.0. Rachael Stewart (Franklin, KY – 161 – 3rd) and Kaitlyn Sneed (Decatur, TN – 162 – T4th) joined Hall and Hendrickson as the players to card four birdies on the weekend. Congratulations to Rheagan on her first win of the season! Boys 13-14
For the second time in as many weeks, A Jacks Green posted the lowest round across all divisions at a HJGT event. This weekend, he took on GreyStone Golf Club and emerged with a 3-under 69 after the first round. The young player from Franklin, TN would further distance himself from the field with a final round 73. Braedon Wear (Maryville, TN) and Justin Vincent (Athens, AL) were in contention after the first round with deficits of 3 and 5 strokes, respectively, but were unable to regain any ground on the relentless Green. Green would lead the entire event field with 9 birdies in the event. Congratulations to A Jacks Green on his stellar win at GreyStone! Boys 11-12
The Boys 11-12 would see the continued dominance of Shelbyville, TN’s Evan Reed. The young player would shoot a pair of 74s for a 4-over-par 148. His five birdies propelled him to a season-low round in his eighth victory of the season. Reed finished with averages of 3.1 on par 3s, 4.0 on par 4s, and 5.5 on par 5s. The Nashville Junior Shootout was another excellent display from Evan Reed. Youngster Robbie Thomas of Elizabethtown, KY would post a 279, good for second place in the field, in just his second competitive event ever.
