Myrtle Beach Junior Open at True Blue

  On August 13th and 14th 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to the True Blue Golf Plantation at Pawleys Island, SC to host the Myrtle Beach Junior Open. The course proved to be a great challenge to the players with its many water hazards and sand-lined fairways. Saturday and Sunday were both hot and sunny days, but Sunday brought a nice little breeze with it. Winners in all six age divisions will receive an automatic bid to the National Championship on December 3rd and 4th, 2016. The weekend was unbeatable all around, and the top ten finishers also received points towards end year honors, which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.  

Boys 16-18 Division

In the boys 16-18 division, Trey Salley of Pawleys Island, SC played two great rounds to take home the championship trophy. Salley had a first round two under score of 70 and a second round even score of 72. His two-day total was 142 with 9 birdies. Henry Augenstein of Columbia, SC took home the second place trophy. Augenstein had two nice rounds of 73 and 75. His two-day total was 148 with 7 birdies. John David Gooden of Myrtle Beach, SC took home the third place trophy. Gooden also played two nice rounds with a score of 75 for both. His two-day total was 150 with 7 birdies. Overall the boys 16-18 age division was very competitive this weekend, and all of our top finishers played impressive golf.      

Boys 14-15 Division

In the boys 14-15 age division, Keegan Vaugh of Myrtle Beach, SC took home the first place trophy. Vaugh had a round one score of 78 and a round two score of 74. His tournament total was 152 with 4 birdies and 1 eagle. Gregor Meyer of Pittsburgh, PA took home the second place trophy. Meyer had a round one score of 79 and a round two score of 75. His tournament total was 154 with 3 birdies. Cade Hancock of Elizabethtown, NC took home the third place trophy. Hancock had a round one score of 77 and a round two score of 80. His tournament total was 157. Overall the boys 14-15 age division was very competitive this weekend, and all of our top finishers played impressive golf.      

Boys 11-13 Division

In the boys 11-13 age division, Keenan Royalty of Raleigh, NC played two nice rounds for the first place trophy. Royalty had a round one score of 75 and a round two score of 77. His tournament total was 152 with 6 birdies. Aidan Browning of Charlotte, NC took home the second place trophy. Browning had a round one score of 84 and cut six strokes in round two for a 78. His tournament total was 162. Harry De Grood of Charleston, SC took home the third place trophy. De Grood had a round one score of 84 and a round two score of 87. His tournament total was 171.Overall, this age division showed they weren´t afraid to compete, and everyone performed well.      

Girls 14-18 Division

In the girls 14-18 division, Samantha Spencer of Conway, SC took home the first place trophy. Spencer had a round one score of 85 and dropped three strokes for an 82 in round two. Her two-day total was 167. Lauren Fix of Summerville, SC took home the second place trophy. Fix had a round one score of 87 and also dropped three strokes in round two for an 84. Her two-day total was 171. Jaiden Vaugh of Myrtle Beach, SC took home the third place trophy. Vaugh had a round one score of 106 and a round two score of 115. Her two-day total was 221.      

Girls U13 Division

In the girls U13 division, Savannah Hylton of Hilton Head, SC was a solo competitor, but played well both days to earn her first place trophy. Hylton had a round one score of 77 and round two score of 78. Her tournament total was 155 with 6 birdies.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18, and Girls 11-13.
