Myrtle Beach Junior Challenge

(September 24-25, 2016)


On Saturday, September 24, 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC to host the Myrtle Beach Junior Challenge at Myrtle Beach National. Sunshine was abundant on the first round after 20 days of rain in South Carolina, September 24, temperatures reaching high 80s and continued sunshine followed the next day. The HJGT would like to thank the Myrtle Beach staff for allowing us to host our tournament at a great venue. Once that first tee shot soared through the air, the golfers were ready to put their clubs to the ball and make their mark on the course.

  Boys 16-18 Division    


Nelson Ou of Foshan, China, was the champion of the Boys 16-18 division. Ou was able to seal up the first place position after shooting 70 and 69. Trey Capps of Garner, NC, took home the second place trophy after shooting a total of 141 for the tournament. The third place trophy went to Mark Laken of Kenosha, WI. Laken finished the Myrtle Beach Junior Challenge with a total score of 146.Laken tied with Kameron Daniels of Bowie, MD as the division’s birdie leaders with 9 Each.  Each player had an amazing experience, while competing against top competitors across the nation.     Boys 14-15 Division 


Cade Hancock of Elizabethtown, NC was the champion of the Boys 14-15 division. Hancock was able to seal this first place victory by shooting 70 and 73. Carlos Garre of altorreal, Spain was able to take home the second place trophy after shooting a total of 143. The two boys had a tie at the end of both days and when to a playoff hole and could not separate until the third playoff hole where Cade won by one stroke. The third place trophy went to Fabricio Gaxiola of North Myrtle Beach, SC, FL. Gaxiola finished the tournament with a total score of 144 finishing just one stroke behind the two others.  Boys 11-13 Division



Braeden Barnett of Galivants Ferry, SC took home the first place trophy for the Boys 11-13 division. Barnett sealed this victory by shooting 80 and 73 for a total of 153. Andrew Propes of Charleston, SC took home the second place trophy with a total of 158. The third place trophy went to Tristen Mckay of Florence, SC who had a total of 170.       Girls 14-18 Division  


Lexi Clark of Fairfax Station, Va took home the first place trophy for the Girls 14-18 division. Clark shot 76 and 81 for a total of 157. Hanna Kiefer of Kronberg, Germany grabbed the second place trophy by shooting a total of 159. Sydney Abruzzino of Myrtle Beach, SC shot a total of 162 to steal the third place trophy.     Weather September 24-25, 2016:   Round 1: Low 71, High 88. Sunny, Wind 5-6 mph Round 2: Low 72, High 84. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
