The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) is set to enter its fifth year of competition in 2012 and is looking to continue its growth into the top junior golf tour in the southeast. With 45 tournaments set from January – September alone, the spring and summer will be an exciting period at the HJGT. As the HJGT continues its growth into some of the best venues across the southeast, tournament fields have been strengthening and with that more HJGT tournaments are receiving ranking statuses. On top of every tournament being ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard (NJGS), record number of HJGT tournaments in the 2012 spring and summer schedule will have prestigious rankings and honors at stake including: AJGA performance stars, Golfweek/Titleist rankings, and State Rankings. On top of the opportunity to have your performance ranked by these organizations, the HJGT is proud to announce the addition of multiple awards for each tournament field, as well as weekly giveaways and promotions throughout the 2012 season.
The 2011 season featured eight total HJGT tournaments offering exemptions from the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). The 2012 spring and summer schedule features a staggering sixteen tournaments that will offer AJGA performance stars for designated divisional champions. The first HJGT tournament of the 2012 season offering performance stars from the AJGA will be the IMG Academies Open held on January 28th-29th at the IMG Academies Golf and Country Club in Bradenton, FL. The Golfweek/Titleist Ranking, developed by Jeff Sagarin, is a system is used to rate junior golfers on different levels, taking into account a player’s: power rating, schedule strength, schedule rank, and record. The rankings require that a junior play in five tournaments over the 52-week period of the year and the HJGT is proud to announce that four tournaments will be ranked by the Golfweek/Titleist Junior Ranking system, with the first of the 2012 season coming at Bobby Grace Putters Jr. Open at the East Lake Woodlands Country Club in Oldsmar, FL on February 25th and 26th. The HJGT 2012 schedule will feature state rankings at stake for every tournament on the schedule. For all tournaments held in Florida, Florida Junior Tour (FJT) exemptions will be awarded to the winners of the Boys and Girls 15-18 divisions, as well as the Boys 11-14 division. All tournaments in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina will feature South Carolina Junior Golf Association (SCJGA) Heritage Points. The SCJGA will award points to the top 20 placers in each event that features at least 25 boys and 8 girls in the division. All tournaments held in the state of North Carolina will be ranked by Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) which awards points to the top 10 finishers in divisions with at least 25 boys and 8 girls.
In addition to the national and state rankings that will be at stake at every HJGT tournament during the 2012 season, special promotions and awards will also be up for grabs. The HJGT has four new awards to announce:
- · Bobby Grace Putters Player of the Month: Every month, a player from each of the four age divisions will be named the Bobby Grace Putters Player of the Month based on their performance in tournaments over the month. Each player will receive a custom Bobby Grace putter and putter head cover ($160 value)
- · EFX Weekly Birdie Challenge: For every HJGT tournament of the 2012 season, players with the most birdies in their age division will receive an EFX Performance Bracelet ($30 value). The bracelet will be awarded at the player’s next HJGT tournament after winning the challenge.
- · Seaforth Par 4 Challenge: For every HJGT tournament of the 2012 season, players with the lowest Par 4 Performance Average in their age division will receive a Seaforth Rain Gear golf bag hood ($25 value). The golf bag hood will be awarded at the player’s next HJGT tournament after winning the challenge.
- · Coolheads Par 5 Challenge: For every HJGT tournament of the 2012 season, players with the lowest Par 5 Performance Average in their age division will receive a Coolheads head cover ($20 value). The head cover will be awarded at the player’s next HJGT tournament after winning the challenge.
