The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour visited Montgomery, Alabama Oct 11-12 for the Montgomery Jr. Shootout. The boys 15-18, boys 11-14, and girls 15-18 divisions competed for Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings. The top ten finishers earned points toward year end honors which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. Winners in each division also received an automatic bid into the 2014 Tour Championship. Boys 15-18
Sam Murphy became the victor in the Boys 15-18 Division with consistent play in both rounds. Murphy posted a round of 74 on the first day, leaving him a stroke behind day 1 leader, Dawson McDaniel. Murphy followed it up with a round of 75 for the final day. On rounds 1 and 2, Murphy carded an impressive two birdies on the front nine to help secure the win. Murphy ended the tournament with a score of 149. A comeback fight for the win by Greg Gionfriddo proved to be exciting as he shaved 4 strokes off of his first round, but came up short, along with Jackson Lawlor as they posted a score of 150 to tie for 2nd. Lawlor contributed the most birdies in his division with 6 total. Girls 15-18
Hannah Powell brought home the trophy in the Girls 15-18 Division. Shooting a 76 in both rounds, she secured the win over Jordan Daniel, the day one leader. Powell went into the second round 4 strokes behind Daniel, and proved that consistent play wins tournaments. This is the first tournament for Hannah Powell with the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour and he took home first place honors. Jordan Daniel, the 2nd place finisher, started out strong on day one with a round of 72, but struggled during round 2, only posting one birdie and 7 pars to end the day with an 85. Tying for 3rd place were Carol Pyon and Ashton Maddaloni who posted a total of 166. It was a hard fought tournament with Powell and Daniel totaling 152 and 157 after two rounds of play. Boys 11-14
Cody Argade would be the champion for the boys 11-14 age division with two consistent rounds of 73 and 72. The Alabama native won by four strokes in front of Carson Whitton to acquire his first win with the HJGT. Carson Whitton finished second with a two-day total of 149, including rounds of 74 and 75. This would make for Whitton’s fifth top three finish of the year with the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. After finishing with a birdie on hole 18 Hal Dove would round off the top three players for the weekend with two consistent rounds of 77 and 75 for a two-day total of 152. Girls 11-14
Cameron Daniel would lead wire to wire to claim the girls 11-14 division. Daniel got off to a fast start on Saturday nearly acing her 4th hole and would maintain her stellar play on Sunday. With only 1 bogey on the front nine Daniel shot a 36, one over par, to complete her first round 78. Overall, Daniel ended Sunday with a 74, and a 2 day total of 152, claiming her 4th win of the season. Runner-up in the division was Eujin Pyon, who shot a 2 day total of 165. Winning the 3rd place prize in the Girls 11-14 division was Faith Scott who shot a 2 day total of 183. Daniel would lead the division in birdies and pars with a total of 3 and 20 respectively. Both Pyon and Scott finished the weekend strong with their best rounds coming in the back nine on Sunday, a 38 for Pyon, and a 41 for Scott. Jack Blair and Aaron Sweatman would take home the Golf Pride comeback player of the week award winning a set of Golf Pride grips. Weather: Day 1- High of 88.
