      On Thursday, July 27, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Prescott, WI to host the Midwest Summer Classic at Clifton Highlands. The players managed to handle the summer heat in Wisconsin both days giving the Juniors a marvelous opportunity with the perfect summer weather for golf. Despite the narrow tree lines and tricky greens, the players achieved a very successful and fun weekend of golf at Clifton Highland Golf Course. There was a lot at stake during this tournament with the top 3 in each division receiving exemption into the 2017 National Championship. The top 10 in each division will receive points towards end of the year honors which include state teams, All HJGT team, and the Hurricane Cup.   

Boys 16-18

Sam Sutcliffe of Sioux Falls, SD is the Boys 16-18 champion. Sutcliffe paced himself this weekend shooting a 76 for Round 1 and then bringing it down to a solid 74 for Round 2 for a total of 150 to capture the winning position. Gus Grunau from St Paul, MN and Carter Doose of St Peter, MN both tied for second coming in close at a two-day total of 151. Grunau posted a sharp 73 (+1) on the final round achieving this weekend lowest score. The players showed great mastery achieving some great shots at Clifton Highlands this weekend.       Boys 14-15

Andrew Boemer of Eagan, MN is the Midwest Summer Classic 2017 champion of the Boys 14-15 division. Boemer secured this weekend’s win by posting a first round of 82 on Saturday and 84 on Sunday for a 166-two-day total to earn the champion title. Evan Quinn of Brainerd, MN came in a 2nd after finishing with a two-day total of 179 (84-79). These boys showed excellent fortitude as they trekked through this difficult course.         Boys 11-13

Justin Yang of Merril, WI is the 2017 champion for the Boys 11-13. Yang shot a 107 for the first round and improved on the final round bringing in a 97 for a two-day total of 204. It’s safe to say Justin Yang had an enjoyable weekend with a shiny winning Trophy to take home.             Girls 14-18

Maija Tanberg of Forest Lake, MN is the Girls 14-18 champion bringing in a two-day total 167 (87-80). Tanberg had an 87 on Saturday and followed that with an improved final round of 80 on Sunday for smooth victory. Finishing in 2nd from Sioux Falls, SD was Jenna Sutcliffe who posted rounds of 92 and 87 to finish with a total of 179. Jasmine Yang of Merrill, WI finished in 3rd place with a two-day total of 186 (95-91). The ladies enjoyed their rounds with each other while they showed grace and class conquering Clifton Highlands golf course.      Girls 13U

A family affair as another Sutcliffe takes the title. Lauren Sutcliffe is the Girls 13 and under champion. Another native to Sioux Falls, SD emerged victorious after posting a two-day total of 192 (89-103). Sutcliffe displayed solid effort and attitude while getting through the great challenges of Clifton Highlands.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
