(October 1-2 2016)

 Putting for Breast Cancer Awareness

On Thursday, September 29th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Laytonsville, Maryland to host the Maryland Fall Challenge at Laytonsville Golf Course. The weather was chilly and rainy both days, with temperatures in the 60’s. The weather may not have been what everyone wanted, but that did not stop the players from giving it all they had out there. The HJGT would like to thank Laytonsville Golf Course for allowing us to host our tournament at such a great venue. AJGA stars and Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings were up for grabs this past weekend as 71 players were battling for their respective age division titles. As the rainy mist came falling down early morning, the players were ready to compete coming from all over the Northeast.   Boys 16-18 Division

William Garrett of Chesapeake, Maryland won his first Hurricane Tournament with solid rounds of 73 and  72 (+1). Coming in second, we had a tie between Joseph Voyta of Rockville, MD and Sebastian Bonte of Arlington, VA, with both boys finishing at (+7).  With a large field at hand, each of the boys got a great experience competing against some of the top juniors from around the region.     Boys 14-15 Division

Nikita Gubenko of Great Falls, VA won the 14-15 division in a landslide after firing rounds of 72 and 70, to finish at even par. Coming in second was Evan Owan of Germantown, MD after shooting rounds of 79 and 74, to finish at +11. Coming in a close 3rd was Nicholas Roberson of Chevy Chase, MD at +13.  While everyone may have not played up to their personal standards, they all gained valuable experience that they can take with them into future tournaments.       Boys 11-13 Division

Kelly Chinn of Great Falls, VA won the Boys 11-13 Division with rounds of 74 and 70 (+2). Racking up 5 birdies in the second round, Chinn was able to overcome a few late bogeys to secure the division title. Coming in a close second was Garrett Engle of Harrisburg, PA, shooting rounds of 73 and 73, to finish at +4. Rounding out the top 3 was Christopher Lee of New Market, MD, finishing at +9. With stiff competition throughout the weekend, each competitor gained great knowledge and experience that will assist them through the rest of the season.

Girls 14-18 Division

Sophie Simon of Potomac, MD won her first HJGT event in the Girls 14-18 Division with ease after shooting rounds of 73 and 74 to finish at +5. Coming in second place was Jacqueline Cherry of Ellicott, MD at +14. Taking third place was Julia Calomiris of Washington, D.C., finishing at +16. While first place became well out of reach, each of the girls kept a great attitude and battled hard throughout weekend.      Girls U13

Vileska Gelpi of Markleton, PA won the Girls U13 division after firing rounds of 82 and 80, to finish at +20. In second was Skye Bruan of Scarsdale, NY, finishing at +57.
