Major Championship at Makefield Highlands
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Yardley, Pennsylvania on July 15 – 16 for the Major Championship at Makefield Highlands Golf Club. This two day 36-hole tournament featured a mix of weather conditions which included ominous pop up thunder storms followed by beautiful sunny skies. These conditions challenged our golfers to attack this well laid out and meticulously designed course throughout the 36-hole tournament. Tuesday and Wednesday’s rounds began at with a single tee start at 8am each day. Winners in all divisions received an automatic bid into the 2014 Tour Championship December 6-7. Top 20 finishers also received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, the Hurricane Cup, and Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking.
Boys 15-18 age Division After two days of fierce competition Kantapong Chaisiriwichian of Bangkok, Thailand was crowned the Boys 15-18 Age Division Champion after he fired a tournament total of 138. Chaisiriwichian carded consecutive rounds of 69 to give him his second championship in a row during his play with the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Chaisiriwichian also had the most birdies in the tournament with nine; three of those came in a birdie streak. Joe Parrini of York, Pennsylvania placed second behind Chaisiriwichian this weekend after carding a score of 144 (71, 73) for the tournament. Miller also had six birdies and 24 pars throughout his tournament play. Third place went to Chester Springs, Pennsylvania’s own Cole McCook after he launched a two day total of 147 (74, 73).
Girls 15-18 age Division The Girls 15-18 Age Division was decided after a one-hole playoff between Lauren Peter and Pimchanok Kawil. Carmel, New York’s own Lauren Peter was the Girls 15-18 Age Division Champion with a score of 149 (72, 77) in her two days of tough competition. Peter also decided to play up a division to play more competitive golf. Peter meticulously plotted her way through the tough 36 holes of competition to become the Champion of her division by carding three birdies and 25 pars. Pimchanok Kawil of Bangkok, Thailand placed second behind Peter this weekend with a tournament total of 149 (75, 74). Kawil secured her second place finish after firing a consistent 30 pars throughout the two days of play. Natcha DaengPiem of Bangkok Thailand was the 15-18 Girls division third place finisher with a tournament total of 150 (75, 75). The Girls 15-18 Age Division also had enough competitors to earn the winners AJGA Performance Stars. Lauren Peter earned four Stars after her victory and Pimchanok Kawil and Natcha Daengpiem earned one Star for their finishes.
Boys 11-14 age Division Byron Chin of Princeton Junction, New Jersey was the Boys 11-14 Age Division Champion with a weekend total of 158 (73, 85). Chin also carded five birdies and 19 pars after two days of tournament play. Anthony Barr of Lititz, Pennsylvania was the second place finisher after he fired a tournament total of 163 (83, 80). Barr also consecutively fired four straight birdies in his final round of play. Third place this weekend went to Brandon Wei of South East Brunswick, New Jersey after he battled through the course to card a total of 165 (83, 82).
Girls 11-14 age Division
Tiya Chowdary of Montgomery, New Jersey was the girls 11-14 age Division champion after carding a 160 (81,79) tournament total. Chowdary fired four birdies and 20 pars to seal her victory. Chowdary also had the pleasure of participating at this past years Master’s Drive, Chip, and Putt Competition for juniors. June Kim of Wayne, Pennsylvania placed second after she carded a 176 (86, 90) for the weekend.
