Major Championship at the Architects

    On Monday, June 26th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Lopatcong, NJ to hold the Major Championship at the Architects hosted by the Architects Golf Club. Our field saw stunning conditions on Wednesday, followed by equally gorgeous weather for our final round on Thursday. AJGA stars were up for grabs this week for the top finishers in the Girls 14 – 18 division and Boys aged 14 – 18. The HJGT would like to thank the wonderful staff members and administrators of the Architects Golf Club for their hospitality and providing such wonderful playing conditions for our field. All in all, a fantastic week was had for low scores and competitive play for each and every golfer.   

Boys 16-18

Boys 16-18 architects

Karsen Rush is the Boys 16-18 champion. The Chambersburg, PA native took home the division by holding off the competition with focused play. Our division champion posted a 72 on Wednesday and a 70 on Thursday for a two-day total of 142 in route to a victory. Anthony Colombino finished in second with a two-day total of 147 (72 – 75). Rishi Bhat of Singapore brought home third place honors with a two-day score of 151 (75 – 76). The field, spectators, and staff were excited to see such a fantastic finish by this division full of talented competitors.       Boys 14-15

Boys 14-15 architects

Cole Ekert is the champion of the Boys 14-15 division. Composure was key for Erkert as he kept his cool to finish the tournament with a commanding margin. The victor, from Chatham, NJ, posted rounds of 76 and 74 for a two-day total of 150. Douglas Beney of Rye, NY took home the second place trophy after finishing with a two-day total of 156 (79 – 77). Third place was split between Robbie Herzig (80 – 79) of New York, NY and Shawn Blandine (78 – 81) of Ringwood, NJ who each posted two-day scores of 159. The Boys 14-15 division saw some fantastic competition that gave the entire field of spectators and HJGT staff a fantastic show over the week.   

Boys 11-13

Boys 11-13 architects

Austin Liao is the Boys 11-13 champion. A 79 on Wednesday and a 71 on Thursday were enough to secure the victory for the Warren, NJ native, finishing with a two-day total of 150. Lance Hollingshead of Basking Ridge, NJ took home second place posting a two-day score of 156 (77 – 79). Mo Sangavarapu took home third place honors with a two-day total of 159 (80 – 79). This group of boys showed nothing but class, sportsmanship and gentlemanlike behavior as they traversed around a challenging golf course.       Girls 14-18

Girls 14-18 architects

Ananya Barthakur of New Dehli, India is the Girls 14-18 champion. Barthakur paired a 74 Wednesday with an equally low 74 Thursday for a two-day total of 148 to edge out the competition and take the Girls 14-18 division. Finishing in second from Laurel Springs, NJ was Taylor Oberparleiter who posted rounds of 80 and 76 for a two-day total of 156. Grace Cuttone of Bernardsville, NJ took home third place with a two-day total of 158 (79 – 79). The ladies each enjoyed their experience, with some intense competition down the stretch.       Girls Under 13

Brooke Oberparleiter is the Girls under 13 champion. Oberparleiter of Laurel Springs, NJ emerged victorious after posting a two-day total of 158 (76 – 82). This netted Oberparleiter a champion trophy. Finishing second was Muskan Mankikar of Bridgewater, NJ posting a two-day total of 173 (85 – 88). Third place was taken home by Garbiella DeGasperis of Briarcliff Manor, NY who posted a two-day total of 188 (92 – 96). These young ladies all did an excellent job performing on a very difficult course.         Boys 10U

Boys u10 architects

Thomas Wen from Basking Ridge, NJ took home the 1st place trophy for the Boys 10U division. Wen posted a two-day score of 174 (90 – 84) to become champion of our 10U division at the Architects. Wen showed some exceptional play over the course of the week, showcasing his smooth stroke and remarkable talent around the green. The field was particularly excited to see such lively play from one of golf’s future leaders.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
