Major Championship at Statesville Oct. 17-18

Statesville, NC (October 18, 2015) The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Statesville, North Carolina on October 17-18 for the Major Championship at Statesville at Statesville Country Club. Day one was a beautiful sunny day out of the golf course, and day two was a bit chilly in the morning but a nice warm up begins Sunday. The tournament took place at the Statesville Country Club facility in Statesville, North Carolina. Statesville is an 18-hole regulation course was designed by Alex McKay/ ® Tom Jackson and opened in 1960. The course is a private equity facility golf course with an  ‘Accompanied By Member’ guest policy. Winners in each division will receive an exemption into the 2015 Tour Championship December 5-6, 2015. Players also competed for Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking (JGS), Tarheel Youth Golf Association Points (TYGA), and South Carolina Junior Golf Association Heritage Points (SCJGA). Additionally, the top 10 finishers receive points towards year-end honors, which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.

Boys 15-18 Patten Williams of Davidson, NC won the boys 15-18 ages division by shooting a 77-73 (+6) for the weekend. Patten as with the most of the competitors struggled on Saturday and posted a 77, however; he did a great job on Sunday with birdies on two of his first four holes which helped lead to his score of 35 (-1) on the front nine. Patten had an excellent performance for leading the division in par four with a 4.10 average and made 22 pars and totally 5 birdies over the two days. The second place went to Zander McCall of Statesville, NC with a 151 (+7). Zander hold 4 shots lead coming into Sunday and made two birdies on the front nine, but he made double bogey on straight two holes on fourteen and fifteen. Zander was first in the division with 26 pars. Sam McGee of Charlotte, NC won the third place with a score of 155 (+11). Sam led his division with six birdies over the weekend.

Boys 13-14 

Jackson Skeen of Jonesborough,TN  won the boys 13-14 age division after shooting a 73 (+1) on Sunday. Jackson made 6 birdies, 26 pars, and led the division in par four performance with 4.10 average. Jackson started the comeback by posting a bogey-free 33 on the front nine. Second place went to Alex Rubino of Charlotte, NC with a 75- 80 over the two days. Alex held a one stoke lead coming into Sunday and made 21 pars and second in the division in par five performance with a 5.0 average. In third place was Luke Hackworth of Charlotte, NC finished with a score of 157 (+13).  Luke played consistently over the course of the weekend turning in scores of 77 (+5) and an 80 (+8). His performance included 21 pars and 2 birdies over the weekend, and ranked first in the field in par 5 average at 4.9.

Girls 15-18 

Madison Branum of Lexington, SC won the girls 15-18 age division with a two round total of 152 (+8). Madison went wire to wire to capture the Major Championship; she closed the tournament with a 74 (+2), good for the low round in her age group. Madison made a total of 6 birdies during the event and matched that great play by posting 20 pars on the remaining holes. Second place went to Alyssa Campbell at 161 (+17). Alyssa played steady golf throughout the two days as she finished with 20 pars unfortunately she was only able to convert on 1 birdie. Finishing in third place at Statesville was Alexis Sudjianto at 167 (+23). Alexis was able to climb the leaderboard on Sunday afternoon by turning in a 79 (+7), which was great improvement from her first round 88 (+16). After going out in 37 (+1) Alexis found herself in the mix for a top finish and she was able to bring the momentum back to the clubhouse to finish in solo third.     Weather: Day 1- High of 66, low of 35, A mainly sunny sky, winds NW at 5-10 MPH Day 2- High of 60, low of 33, A mainly sunny sky, winds NNW at 5-10 MPH   Tournament Yardages: Boys 15-18: 6,614 yards Boys 13-14: 6,131 yards Girls 15-18: 5,717 yards   About us: The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment.
