Major Championship at Spencer T. Olin GC
(July 30 - 31, 2016)
On Thursday, July 28, 2016 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Alton, IL to host the Major Championship at Spencer T. Olin. Sunshine was abundant on both Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the upper 80s. The HJGT would like to thank the Spencer T. Olin GC staff for allowing us to host our Major Championship out at a great venue. The boys 14-18 top performers received Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking points. The top three winners in each age division were awarded an exemption into the 2016 National Championship in Champions Gate, FL on December 3-4th, and the top ten finishers also received points towards year-end honors. Each player was fill with excitement and couldn’t wait to show their competitors what they had in stored.
Boys 16-18 Division
Round one started out as a close race between Nick Messinger, of Brighton, IL and Andrew Modder, of Kirkwood, MO. Messinger was leading by 2 strokes after round 1 and Modder was not far behind. At the end of the second round Messinger came in with a second round 74 to give him a two day total of 146 to take first place. Modder struggled the second day shooting a second round 83, which landed him in fifth place. Coming in second place was Micheal Brown, of Smithfield, KY with a two day total of 154. Congratulations to these guys and we wish them luck for the rest of the summer.
Boys 11-13 Division
Some of the best rounds during the Major Championship happened in the boys 11-13 division. The winner, Sean Minor, of Colombia, MO shot a great score of 76 in the first round and was able to best that score with a 73 in the second round for a total of 149. Coming just two strokes shy of Minor, Curt Hastie, of St, Louis, MO. He had a great Saturday round of 76 and improved on that score in the second round shooting a 75 for a total of 151 for the tournament. Both Minor and Hastie had great rounds this weekend at the Major Championship at Spencer T. Olin and we look forward to seeing them play again with us soon.
Girls 14-18 Division
With only one player in the girls 14-18 division, Avery Rea, of Carterville, IL, got to play with the other individual girls from the U13 division. Rea had a tough first round finishing at 92. She followed up that tough first round with a better socre of 89 in the final round to finish at a total of 181 for the tournament. Congratualations to Avery and we wish her the best of luck throught the rest of the summer.
With only one girl in the girls U13 division, Sierra Fink, of Peachtree City, GA got to play with the individual girl in the 14-18 division. Fink shot two great rounds of 84 for the tournament, with a two day total of 168. Congratulations to Sierra and we wish her the best of luck through the rest of the summer.
With only two boys in the boys U10 age division, both boys had a great tournament. Griffin Barke, of Louisville, KY shot 92-98 for a two day total of 190 to take first place and Sage Bradshaw, of Chesterfield, MO shot 103-93 for a two day total of 196 to take second place. Congratulations to each of these boys and we wish them luck on the rest of the summer.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
