Driving to Success


On Thursday, October 15, 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Charlotte North Carolina to host the Major Championship at the beautiful Skybrook Golf Club. The weather would not keep the players down as rain was forecasted for the first afternoon. The HJGT would like the thank the staff at Skybrook Golf Club for allowing us to host our tournament at such an amazing venue. With enthusiasm previously unknown to mankind the players forged onward to success against the unyielding forces of nature and challenging course layout.


Boys 16-18  


Cole Sutherland of Charlotte North Carolina is the Boys 16-18 champion. Cole used a scintillating 70 in the first round to grab the early lead and coast to the finish of the two around tournament at 147 (70-77). He then went to win in a playoff vs. Allen Smith. Allen Smith of Durham North Carolina finished in 2nd with a two-day total of 147 (74-73).  The 3rd place trophy was awarded to Austin Hoerstkamp with a total of 151 (77-74). The players had a great time navigating a challenging course layout and competing against some of the best junior golfers in the country.   Boys 14-15   


Zachary Reuland from Rock Hill South Carolina is the champion of the Boys 14-15 division. Consistency was key for Reuland as he posted rounds of 77 and 74 for a 151 total to claim the title. What Locked in his round was a Hole in one on hole number seven! (par three) Perry-Austin Kilburn was the 2nd place finisher with a 77 the first day and a 82 the second day for a total of 159 (77-82). Jace Arko of Cornelius North Carolina is the 3rd place finisher with an 87 round one and a the next. He finishes the tournament with a total of 169.  The players competed valiantly and all left with smiles on their faces knowing that they had competed to the best of their abilities.   Boys 11-13  


Will Conway of Weddington North Carolina is the Boys 11-13 champion. Will started strong with a final round 88 to capture the title. He played a great round the second day firing a 86 two-day total of 174 (88-86). Drew Coppin posted a total of 178 (87-91) over the two rounds to finish alone in 2nd place. The boys had a fun time navigating through the course and showed maturity beyond their years in assaulting its many challenges.   Boys U10  


Jonathan Elter from Naples, Fl is the Boys under 10 champion. Jonathan won the event posting a two-day total of 167 (81-86). Jonathan attacked the course with a youthful vigor that left spectators and fellow competitors impressed. Surely this will not be the last time we hear young Jonathan  name in the winner’s circle at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour.   Girls 14-18  


Abbey Schimpf of Daniel Island, NC is the Girls 14-18 champion. Abbey charged hard to the finish line Sunday closing with a 77 to give her a two around total of 152 (75-77) and the victory. Finishing in 2nd from Myrtle Beach. SC was Sydney Abruzzino, who posted rounds of 77 and 89 to finish with a total of 166. The ladies each enjoyed their experience immensely, while competing against the top competitors in the region.  Girls U13



Sierra Fink is the Girls 13 and under champion of Tyrone, GA. She played in a group of Girls 14-18 and battled her way in the first round with a 92. Posting a final round 91 to claim the title with a total of 183 (92-91).     Weather October 15-16, 2016 Round 1: Low 57, High 72. Partly Cloudy, Wind 4-5 Mph Round 2: low 55, High 77. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
