The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Kennesaw, GA on July 6-7 for the Major Championship at Pinetree Country Club. Despite signs of heavy rain for this weekend, the opening round began on schedule Saturday morning. Pinetree Country Club’s staff did an amazing job preparing the course for this weekend and its field size of 81 junior golfers. Sunday’s weather was amazing with a bright and hot sun, but with a steady cool breeze to compliment the temperature. Trophy winners in all five divisions received an invitation to the 2015 HJGT National Championship. Additionally, the top ten finishers in each division received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup.
Connor Pollman played some outstanding golf on his way to a wire-to-wire victory in the Boy's 15-18 division. He opened with an impressive 69, the best round of the weekend across all divisions and followed that score up with a 74 on the second day to have a total of 143 to finished one under par. Pollman along with Hunter Fry led the field with 10 birdies, having 7 birdies on the first day and 3 on day two. Pollman finished with a -5 on the back nine while finishing 2 under on the last 3 holes. There was a three way tie for second with Wesley Hanson of Macon, Hunter Fry of Dacula, and Zach Zediker of Macon. All three golfers ended up even after the two day event shooting 74, 73, 70 on the first day and 70, 71, 74 on the second day respectively. The Major Championship would see another close contest in the Girl's 15-18 Division in Alpharetta native, Heather Kipniss. Kipniss would enter the final round trailing the first round leader by one stroke, but would come back to win by four strokes to take the Major Championship. Kipniss also lead the field with five total birdies and averaged 3.1 strokes on Par 3 scoring. Emma Bell of Braselton came in close second with a score of 83 and 82 on day one and day 2 respectively. Bell led the field after day one but was outplayed on the final day by Kipniss. Bell would average 3.25 on Par 3 scoring. It was a close contest but congratulations to Heather Kipniss on her Major Championship victory!
The Major Championship saw yet another wire-to-wire in the Boy's 13-14 Divison with Macon native, Noah Zediker. Zediker shot an impressive 152, 78 and 74 on day one and day two respectively. He also had a 7 hole par streak during the final round. Zediker was six strokes behind the leader of the first round but came back the final round to win. The second place winner, Shyam Joshi of Dacula, came in a close second with a score of 153. He had an impressive five birdies and 18 pars for the two rounds to beat out the two way tie for third place. Mark Brown and Jonathon Tark both shot for a total of 153 to round out third. Zediker had four birdies and an impressive 23 pars for the two rounds played. Congratulations to Noah Zediker for his Major Championship victory!
The field size was small but the competition for the Girl's 11-14 Division at the Major Championship at Pinetree was fierce. Liza Eubanks from Peachtree City lead the field from the beginning and never looked back. She shot an impressive 78 for both rounds for a total of 156. Eubanks had three birdies and 15 pars to round out the event. The second place winner, Sarah Scott of Ovideo, shot 82 and 85 for the first round and final round respectively for a total of 167. Sarah Scott had 12 pars for the two days to come in second. As for the third place winner, Faith Scott of Columbus shot a total of 173 with 85 for the first round and 88 for the final round. Congratulations to Liza Eubanks for her Major Championship victory!
The Boy's 11-12 Division would see Jake Peacock of Alpharetta take a commanding lead right from the start at the first round of play in the Major Championship at Pinetree. He would shoot 76 and 73 for round one and round two respectively to have an impressive total of 149. Peacock had an impressive six birdies to lead the field and 20 pars in total to beat the second place winner, Renato Gerena of Peachtree City.
