Major Championship at Fieldstone

         On September 24th and 25th 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Auburn Hills, MI to host the Major Championship at Fieldstone Golf Course. The course was full of nature, Golden Squirrels, and adaptation. Saturday was feelingly cool with junior golfers focusing on every drive, putt, and game changer from hole to hole. Sunday carried a heavenly sunrise, and at 8:56 am, the golfers begin their quest for the championship. Winners in all four age divisions will receive an automatic bid into the National Championship on December 3rd and 4th, 2016. The weekend was extremely competitive, and every junior golfer played their best to achieve personal satisfaction as well as possible invitations into the December National Championships. The upcoming weeks is expected to inquire many talents as the golfers’ train and compete for major championships.

In the Girls 14-18 division, Haley Barclay of Strathroy, ON took home the first place trophy. Barclay shot a first round score of 76 which quickly separated her from the rest of the playing field. Her two-day total of 158 edged her to victory over Sydney Leyerle who finished with a 165. Haley Barclay of Strathroy, ON was confident and humble at the thought of winning this Hurricane Junior Golf event. All of the participants had a wonderful time at Fieldstone Golf Course.  Finishing with the best score, Barclay told our tournament director that she enjoyed the course and wishes to continue playing in Hurricane Junior Golf events.

In the Boys 16-18 division, after two remarkable rounds, Austin Billy Jack Bailes of Lake Forest, IL took home the first place trophy. Bailes shot a first round score of 72 which quickly set him apart from the rest of the playing field. His two-day total of 152 edged him to victory over Matthew Jordan who finished with a 156. Billy Jack Bailes of Lake Forest, IL was ecstatic at the thought of winning this Hurricane Junior Golf event. It came down to the final score card which determined a winner for the 16-18 boy’s division. All of the participants had a wonderful time at Fieldstone Golf Course.  Finishing with the best score, Hoerstkamp told our tournament director that he enjoyed the competitive playing field and wish to continue competing in Hurricane Junior Golf events.

In the Boys 11-13 age division, Brockton English of Shelby Township, MI took home the first place trophy. English had a round one score of 80 and a round two score of 73. English’s tournament total was 153. Dhruv Kumar of Novi, MI took home the second place trophy. Kumar had a round one score of 82 and a round two score of 80. His tournament total was 162. Perry Johnson of Bloomfield Hills, MI took home the third place trophy. Benedict had a round one score of 85 and a round two score of 78. His tournament total was 163.

In the Boys 10U division, Aiden Gutierrez of Valparaiso, IN took home the first place trophy. Gutierrez had a round one score of 78 and a round two score of 82. Gutierrez’s tournament total was 160. Gutierrez progressed from round to round as he scored strongly in the 2nd as well. Gutierrez is an extremely competitive player and looks to compete in future Hurricane Junior Golf Tour tournaments.       The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18, and Girls 11-13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, California, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Louisiana, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and more.
