Oldsmar, Florida (February 26, 2012) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour continued its 2012 season this past weekend with the first title sponsor event of the year. The Bobby Grace Putters Jr. Open for the Upper Division players was held at the Eastlake Country Club. Many players came out to compete this weekend from various parts of the globe. The following countries and states were represented this weekend including:  Florida, Georgia, Thailand, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Israel, Japan, New York, Illinois, Austria, Singapore, California, and Colorado. Weather for the tournament was fair. Saturday turned out to be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 70’s.  Sunday turned out to be cloudy with a couple of showers with highs only reaching the low 50’s. The Eastlake Woodlands Country Club was an excellent host for the Bobby Grace Putters Jr. Open. The HJGT would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the golf course for all of their help. This special event was ranked by Golfweek, the National Junior Golf Scoreboard (NJGS), and featured Florida Junior Tour exemptions. In the Boys 15-18 Upper Division this weekend, Haoyuan Lu of Bradenton, Florida, took first place. Lu posted a two day total score of +2 (73+73=146). In his first round of play on Saturday, Lu managed to par every hole with the exception of three bogeys and two birdies. In the second round, Lu posted a total of four birdies to help propel him to win the tournament. Lu had the most pars or better with an impressive average of 80.6%, and he also had the best Par 5 Performance Average at 4.50. Second place was taken by Zheng Liang also from Bradenton, Florida. Liang posted a two day total score of +4 (75+73=148). Liang struggled in the first round with four bogeys and a double bogey. However, he managed to improve his score by shooting a total of six birdies for the tournament, with four of them coming in the first round of play. Newport Laparojkit of Bradenton, Florida, finished third in the tournament this weekend. Laparojkit has competed in multiple tournaments this year; however, this is the first time that he has placed in the top three this year. Laparojkit had a two day total score of +5 (74+75=149). He also had the most birdies in the tournament with a total of six. The Girls 15-18 Upper Division saw impressive play. So Young Hwang of Bradenton, Florida, placed first to win her second tournament of the 2012 season. Hwang is characterized by her perseverance and tenacity out on the course. She is also well known for the low scores that she is able to post in tournaments. Hwang posted the lowest score of the weekend with a two day total score of -1 (71+72=143). In her first round of play, Hwang managed to have three birdies to help her shoot the lowest first round score of 71. In the second round, Hwang improved her chances of winning by posting an eagle on the par 5 hole number nine. Hwang placed first in multiple categories, including: Most Eagles (1), Par 3 Performance (2.88), Par 4 Performance (4.10), Most Pars (26), and the Best Par 5 Performance Average (4.75) Lisa Unterghanschnigg of Austria finished second, posting a two day total score of +6. Lisa had two birdies in her second round. She also had a total of four birdies and 22 pars. Coming in at third place was Hadas Libman of Israel. Libman posted a two day total score of +7 (76+75=151). This is Libman’s first time placing in the top three in her division. Libman had the most birdies out of the Girls 15-18 division with a total of six.
