Zanghetti takes home first place
Amelia River Island, FL (November 18) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Amelia River Island this weekend to host the Loudmouth Golf Junior Open. The event took place at the beautiful Amelia River Golf Club. This tournament featured over 60 players from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, including a handful of international players from all over the world. The tournament was ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard, as well as offering performance stars toward the AJGA for each division winners. Each divisions first place winner will also receive an automatic bid into the end of year tour championship on December 8-9 at Championsgate in Orlando, FL. The weather was slightly chilly all weekend with temperatures in the mid 40’s and gusts of wind up to 30 miles per hour. The tournament this weekend was sponsored by Loudmouth Golf apparel. Loudmouth features some of the most stylish and trendy golf gear including anything from pants and shorts to hats and visors. The Boys 15-18 Division was won by Arthur Griffin; of Lake Placid, NY, who just edged his opponents in a tight battle for first place. Griffin posted an extremely impressive score of 74-71—145 over the weekend, with only one stroke on the final round of Sunday putting him over the top for first place. Griffin continued his stellar weekend by leading the boys in several statistical categories including most pars (25), most pars or better (86.1%), and par 4 performances (4.10). Coming in a close second place out of Scotland was Ewen Ferguson, who posted a 74-72—146 over the weekend to fall just short by only one stroke to Griffin. Ferguson was able to lead the boys in most statistical categories however, with most birdies (9), par 3 performances (2.62), and most par breakers (25%). Coming in third place was Taylor Funk of nearby Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Funk also had a quality weekend as he shot a 77-72—149. Oliver Lehmann, an international player from Switzerland, was also able to earn his spot in the statistical categories by coming in first place in our par 5 performance with 4.50. The Girls 15-18 Division was won by Mia Zanghetti of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Zanghetti had a magnificent weekend as she posted a 76-74--150 to finish in first place. Zanghetti lead the ladies in nearly every statistical category including birdies (4), most par breakers (11.1%), most pars (24), most pars or better (77.8%), par 4 performance (4.10) and par 5 performances (5.50). Coming in second place was Isidora Quevedo of Chile, who had a very impressive weekend. Quevedo shot an 83-76—159 over the weekend. Coming in third place, another international player was Anita Uwadia of Nigeria. Uwadia posted a score of 88-76—164 over the weekend. The Boys 11-14 Division was won by Spenser Slayden of Ponte Vedra, FL. Slayden finished his quality weekend with an impressive score of 76-72—148. Slayden also led the boys in our par 5 performances with a 5.00 average. The second place finish was a tie between Manuel Girona and Ray Navis. Girona; of Windermere, FL, shot a 75-78—153. Girona led the young boys with birdies (6), most par breakers (16.7%), and our par 4 performances with a 4.15 average. Navis; of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, had an identical score with 75-78—153. Navis led the boys in most pars (25) and most pars or better (75%). Golfers who participate on tour will compete in one of four age divisions: Boys 15-18 Division, Boys 11-14 and Girls 15-18 Division and 11-14 Division. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the southeast, with stops in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
