Braselton, Georgia (April 1, 2012) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Chateau Elan Jr. Shootout this weekend at the Chateau Elan Golf Course in Braselton, GA. Players traveled from many parts of the southeast to compete this weekend. States and countries that were represented in the tournament include: Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Massachusetts, Canada, Maryland, and South Carolina. The HJGT has hosted multiple tournaments over the past few years at this magnificent course. Weather on both days of the tournament proved to be some of the greatest that the tour has seen all year. Saturday was filled with sunny skies with a gentle breeze and highs in the 70’s. Sunday turned out to be spectacular with clear, sunny skies and highs in the mid 70’s. The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour would like to extend a special thanks to all of the staff at the Chateau Elan Golf Course. The course was in pristine condition and received many compliments from the competitors that were present this weekend.   The Boys 15-18 Division saw some of the best play that has been present so far this year. The first place trophy was taken by Logan Lanier of St. Augustine, Fl.  Lanier posted an astounding two day total score of -2 (70+70=140). Lanier had a total of seven birdies with four of them coming in his first round on Saturday. Along with the first place trophy and impressive score, Lanier also had the most pars or better (86.1%), and the best par four performance average (3.95).  Second place was taken by Taylor Martin of Braselton, GA. Martin was in close contention for the lead posting a two day total score of -1 (71+70=141). Martin birdied five holes in his first round of tournament play, but it did not prove to be enough to get him the win. However, Martin was the only player this weekend to pull off an eagle. Martin managed to eagle the par five number fifteen, and also went home with the best par five performance average (4.33).  Justin Mattheis of Decatur, GA, finished third this weekend with a two day total score of +4 (73+73=146). In the Girls 15-18 Division, Bella Skinner of Cumming, GA, won first place by posting a two day total score of -1 (67+74=141). Skinner’s first round proved to be what gave her the boost to take the first place trophy this weekend. Skinner had an above average round by managing to have a total of seven birdies. In her second round of play, Skinner was not so fortunate and shot +3 for the round. Skinner took home the first place trophy and led in multiple categories including: most birdies (8), best par four performance average (3.95), and best par five performance average (4.67). Alyssa Getty from Leamington, ON, won second place with a two day total score of +3 (74+71). Getty managed to improve her second round by three strokes but it was not enough to contend with the leader. In the second round, Getty had a total of four birdies all coming on the back nine. Out of all the players in the division, Getty managed to have the most pars with a total of twenty-five. Rachel Lee of Woodstock, MD, finished third with a two day total score of +6 (74+74=148). Lee had a total of five birdies and twenty-one pars for the weekend.   In the Boys 11-14 Division, Hunter Dunagan of Martinez, GA, took home his 5th first place trophy of the 2012 HJGT season. Dunagan posted a two day total score of +1 (73+70=143). Dunagan had a total of five birdies, and also had the best par three performance average (2.75), most pars (27), and the best par four performance average (4.09). Spencer Ralston of Gainesville, GA, took second place by posting a two day total score of 144 (73+71).  Ralston had the most birdies with a total of seven, the best par five performance average (4.33), and also managed to eagle the par five hole number nine. Anthony Whobrey of Jefferson, GA, finished third with a two day total score of 153 (75+78=153). The Girls 11-14 Division, Harmanprit Kaur took home her first win of the season with a two day total score 153 (75+78). Kaur led the field the entire weekend in all aspects to help carry her to her first place win including: most birdies (2), par three performance average (3.25), par four performance average (4.36), and par five performance average (5.17). Ella Woods of St. Augustine, FL, placed second with a two day total score of 164 (80+84). Keagan Dunn of Buford, GA, placed third in the division with a two day total score of 180 (87+93).
