Pedro tops the field

Hirai wins with class


Hilton Head Island, SC (September 8-9,2012) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to beautiful Hilton Head Island this weekend to host the Kikkor Golf Series at Golden Bear. The tournament featured over 90 of the southeast’s best players with competitors from South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida as well as some international players from Nigeria, Chile, Brazil, and Spain. This tournament was ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard. The weather was gorgeous throughout the entire weekend with temperatures in the 80’s and sunny skies. The Boys 15-18 Division champion was Toks Pedro of Bowie, Maryland. Pedro posted a strong 73 on Saturday and solidified the victory on Sunday with an outstanding 70 finishing -1. The fight for first place was neck to neck all weekend between some of the stronger competitors. Pedro was able to just squeeze past two other players who tied for 2nd place with an even overall score. Hayden Ploeger and Alex Handy, both from nearby Aiken, South Carolina, tied for second place with an overall even score of 144. The three top players were all tied going into the back nine on the second round, but Toks was able to pull ahead and take home first place. Pedro was also able to come in first for our Most Pars or Better category completing 88.9%. Handy won our Par 3 Performance with an average of 2.75. Ploeger took home the Par 4 Performance with a 4.00 average. The Girls 15-18 Division leader was Reona Hirai out of Summerville, South Carolina. Hirai shot a 153 for the round after posting a quality 74 on Saturday followed by a 79 on Sunday. In second place from Chile was Isidora Quevedo shooting a 157. Not far behind Quevedo was local Brandi Hammonds from Bluffton, South Carolina shooting a 158. Hirai nearly swept the board in the statistics category for the older girls as she came in first place for Most Birdies, Most Par Breakers, and Par 3 & 4 Performance. Isidora Quevedo had the most pars over the weekend with 24. Zak Butt from Summerville, South Carolina was the first place winner for the Boys 11-14 Division. Butt was also the overall leader for the entire tournament as he posted a brilliant two under par 142 for the tournament. Butt shot a 71 on each day of the tournament. Coming in second place was Vijay Mishra from North Myrtle Beach shooting +4. Kyle Spencer of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina was not too far behind in third with +5. Alex Weary of the boys younger division was the only players to shoot an eagle. Butt led the field in Par 4 Performance with a 3.80 average. Kyle Spencer led the group in most pars with 27. Joseph Daniel Kim from Martinez, GA had the most birdies out of the group with eight. The Girls 11-14 Division was won by Rylie Marchman from Waynesboro, GA. Marchman shot an 80 on Saturday and a 92 on Sunday. Coming in second for the young ladies was local Meredith Langs from Hilton Head shooting an 88 on each day. Golfers who participate on tour will compete in one of four age divisions: Boys 15-18 Division, Boys 11-14 and Girls 15-18 and 11-14 Division. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the southeast, with stops in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
