Kelley Brooke Junior Open
(July 8 – 9, 2017)
On Thursday, July 6, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Staten Island, NY to hold the Kelley Brooke Junior Open hosted by the Silver Lakes Golf Course. Our field saw warm, humid conditions on Saturday, followed by considerably cooler weather for our final round on Sunday. Top finishers from each division will receive points towards year-end honors and an opportunity to make a splash in Florida in December for the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s National Championships. The HJGT would like to thank the wonderful staff members and administrators of the Silver Lakes Golf Course for their hospitality and for providing such wonderful playing conditions for our field. All in all, a fantastic weekend was had for low scores and competitive play for each and every golfer. Boys 16-18

Charles Chung is the Boys 16-18 champion. The Hong Kong, China native took home the division by keeping his composure through golf’s most exciting finish, a playoff hole. Our division champion posted a 73 on Saturday and a 70 on Sunday for a two-day total of 143 in route to a victory. Ray Gresalfi of Lake Success, NY finished in second with a two-day total of 143 (73 – 70). Kyle Zere of Ronkonkoma, NY brought home third place honors with a two-day score of 150 (75 – 75). The field, spectators, and staff were excited to see such a fantastic finish by this division full of talented competitors. Boys 14-15

William Sun is the champion of the Boys 14-15 division. Composure was key for Sun as he kept his cool to win the tournament by only two strokes. The victor, from Beijing, China, posted rounds of 73 and 81 for a two-day total of 154. Charlie Cummings of Ridgewood, NJ took home the second place trophy after finishing with a two-day total of 156 (73 – 83). Third place was taken home by Titus Matthews of Woodland Park, NJ who posted a two-day score of 162 (83 – 79). The Boys 14-15 division saw some fantastic competition that gave the entire field of spectators and HJGT staff a fantastic show over the week.
Boys 11-13

Alex Reyes is the Boys 11-13 champion. A 73 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday was enough to secure the victory for the Forest Hill, NJ native, finishing with a two-day total of 150. Evan Koutsopetras of Brooklyn, NJ took home second place posting a two-day score of 182 (87 – 95). Soren Andersen of Staten Island, NY took home third place honors with a two-day total of 193 (94 – 99). This group of boys showed nothing but class, sportsmanship and gentlemanlike behavior as they traversed around an incredibly narrow golf course. Girls 14-18

Annie Sun of Beijing, China is the Girls 14-18 champion. Sun paired a 79 Saturday with an exceptional 74 on Sunday for a two-day total of 153 to edge out the competition and take the Girls 14-18 division. Kara Kniezewski of Blue Bell, PA (83 – 78) and Kelli Anderson of Staten Island, NY (81 – 80) split second place honors each posting scores of 161 for the tournament. The ladies each enjoyed their experience, with some intense competition down the stretch. Girls Under 13

Amanda Phillips is the Girls under 13 champion. Phillips of New York, NY emerged victorious after posting a 77 Saturday and 77 Sunday. This netted Phillips a score of 154 and a champion trophy. Finishing second Sarah Shao of Green Brook NJ posting a two-day total of 157 (79 – 78). Third place was taken home by Sydney Yermish of Wynnewood, NJ who posted a two-day total of 173 (78 – 95). These girls did an excellent job trekking through a difficult course. Boys 10U

Chase Zere from Ronkonkoma, NY took home the 1st place trophy for the Boys 10U division. Zere posted a two-day score of 166 (86 – 80) to become champion of our 10U division at the Junior Open. Dennis Fitzgerald of Manasquan, NJ took home second place honors with a two-day total of 206 (96 – 112). This division showed some exceptional play over the course of the weekend, keeping positive attitudes and high levels of sportsmanship throughout play. The field was particularly excited to see such lively play from some of golf’s future leaders.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
