The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour will be hosting a 54 hole challenge over President’s day weekend. Orange Park, FL is set as the host city for the tournament. The 54-Hole Challenge will play a vital role toward point accumulation for year end honors this 2013 season. The Orange Park, FL event will be an especially enticing venue, in lieu of the normal point system; the top 15 slots will receive nearly double the points which will weigh heavily toward the inaugural Hurricane Cup. The winner of the Boys 15-18 & Girls 15-18 age division will receive four AJGA performance stars, equivalent to 1 exemption into an AJGA event. Moreover, winners of the Boys 15-18 and 11-14 divisions, as well as the Girls 15-18 division will receive 1 exemption into a Florida Junior Tour (FJT) event. Winners across each of the four divisions will also receive an automatic bid into the 2013 tour championship. The event will be ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard (NJGS). Tournament format will consist of 54 hole stroke play, spanning over three days. There will be two waves of double tee starts, the first wave will begin between 7:30AM and 9:00AM, and the second wave of double tee action will begin between 11:30AM and 1:00PM; these will be the tee times for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (President's Day). Event registration will run from 6:30AM-Noon. Registration for members is $229 and the non-member fee is $249. For membership information please refer to our website (www.hjgt.org/basic-membership/). This par 71 course at Fleming Island was designed by legend Bobby Weed and is described as a masterpiece. An excerpt taken from the course website states "Mr. Weed designed The Golf Club at Fleming Island not to defeat the golfer through dramatic intimidation, but to challenge him subtly, using the natural surroundings". This relatively new course, opened in September 2000, is a hybrid course with an open front nine followed by a tight back nine carved out of the natural timber.
