The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour will be heading to Jekyll Island, Georgia on April 12-13 when they host a Georgia junior golf tournament titled the Jekyll Island Jr. Open Presented by GolfDotz. Jekyll Island has been a golf destination since 1898 and the Pine Lakes course uses the natural landscape to create classic course designs highlighted by spectacular scenery. The Jekyll Island Jr. Open Presented by GolfDotz is open to all junior golfers between the ages of 11-18. This tournament has a lot up for grabs. The champion in each division will win AJGA Performance Stars if their respective field size requirements are met. Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings and South Carolina Junior Golf Association Heritage points will be awarded to all divisions. The winners in each division will receive an automatic bid into the HJGT 2014 Tour Championship and Mid-Season Invitational. Additionally, the top ten finishers will receive points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup. The tournament will be a two day, 36-hole, stroke play event. The first round will begin on Saturday with a double tee start running from 8AM – 10AM. The second round, on Sunday, will also be a double tee start with times ranging from 8AM-10AM. The registration fee is $185 for members and $215 for non-members. For 2014 membership information please refer to our website. Jekyll Island is Georgia's largest public golf resort with 63 holes on four golf courses, each offering players something a little different. Pine Lakes is a modern course in terms of its bunkers and harmony with the natural landscape. Each golfer immerses themselves in nature, and is able to focus every shot with only an occasional disruption from deer, alligator, osprey or other wildlife. Due to the fact that Joe Lee had a hand in creating the course, sand will be a serious factor. Fairway bunkers are generally a modest concern off the tee, with Clyde Johnston’s renovations on Pine Lakes making them more in play for the longer hitters. Lee mixes up his green side bunker pattern on both designs increasing the need for accurate approach shots. Pine Lakes is fairly open off the tee, with water not a serious factor on a majority of the holes. However, the tree lines on Pine Lakes are dense in spots and errant tee shots will not be treated kindly. This one of a kind course offers a challenge to every golfer.
