The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour made a stop at a par 71 Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida to host the Innisbrook Jr. Classic. Day one was sunny with light winds and day two ended with clear skies. The competition was full of academies and great scores. All the winners of each division will get an invite to the 2015 HJGT National Championship.
In the Boys 15-18 division, Khavish Varadan of Wesley Chapel, Florida was our definitive winner. He came out on top with a 33 on the front nine and a 35 on his back nine of day one and a consistent 36 on both sides on Sunday. There was a two way tie for second from Baylee Wise of King City and Evan Sun of Wesley Chapel, Florida both with a two day total of 149. Wise had the second most birdies of the older boys and Sun made it through with the most pars overall. The highlight of the weekend may have been an impressive hole in one from Hunter DeSena on Saturday. I
n the Girls 15-18 division, there was a close grab for first. After a tie of 72 on day one, Greta Voelker managed to come back on Sunday and claim first by one stroke. Voelker recorded a two day total of 126 and Aline Krauter of Wesley Chapel, Florida fell right behind her with a two day total of 127. Krauter had the most pars in her age division. Zhangcheng Guo managed to hang with the two girls and came in third with a second day strong finish of 54. We had another impressive hole in one this weekend from Sofia Portela on hole 18.
The Boys 13-14 was rather competitive on the beautiful course of Innisbrook. It was a close field, but Yichen Cai found his way to the top. Cai recorded a 77 in round one and an 72, finishing with a two day total of 149. He had the most birdies in his age division. Ryan Song of Bradenton, Florida came in a close second for the tournament. He finished with a two day total of 150 and the most pars throughout his field. Lambert Lan was our leader after the first day, but struggled with the course on Sunday. He managed to pull a third place finish with a two day total of 152.
The Girls 11-14 Division’s winner was Minny Byun from Bradenton, Florida. She led day number one with a 73 and finished out Sunday with a total of 82. Second was a close call, but Hanana Kawada of Bradenton, Florida managed to clinch the second place trophy. Kawada had a two day total of 161. Third place this weekend from Bradenton, Florida was Sunny Xia. She played consistently both days with an 81 for both.
The Boys 11-12 division was lacking in field size this weekend, but that didn’t phase Gregory Solhaug of Bradenton, Florida away from hanging on to clinch first. Gregory took the whole field with a two day total of 157. Coming in second for the younger boys was Zheng Yi Liu from Bradenton, Florida. He led the field on Saturday, but struggled in day two and went on to finish with a 162. Patricio Esquer rounded out the top with a third place finish of 165.
