One of the most prominent southeastern junior golf tours will be traveling to Orlando, Florida as the HJGT looks to host the Orlando Junior Challenge at the elegant Rio Pinar Country Club (January 19-20). At stake are exemptions for division winners to the Florida Junior Tour and an automatic bid into the 2013 Tour Championship. The Orlando Junior Challenge is another major stepping stone towards the coveted Hurricane Cup, a year-long point tournament that wraps up with the finalists facing off at The Retreat Course at Sea Island Golf Resort in Sea Island, GA. The HJGT’s first trip to Rio Pinar will feature 36 holes of stroke play over a 2-day period (Jan 19-20). Four separate divisions will be represented: Boys 15-18, Girls 15-18, Boys 11-14, and Girls 11-14, with the champions in each division being crowned January 20th at approximately 3:00 PM. Formed in 1957, Rio Pinar is one of Orlando’s most historic country clubs and has hosted many PGA, LPGA, and FSGA events throughout the years. The course is home to the University of Central Florida golf teams and will prove to be a new, exciting challenge for the members of the HJGT.
