A chance for young junior golfers to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Hurricane Junior Golf Tour “Drives” for the Cure
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we hope to raise over $1,000 for Susan G. Komen by selling pink ribbons to all of our players and parents at our October Tournaments. The HJGT is working with Rally for the Cure® to help raise breast cancer awareness in support of Susan G. KomenTM. The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s staff and interns volunteered their hours to hand make breast cancer awareness ribbons The HJGT will put pink flags on holes 9 and 18 at all of our October Tournaments and if a player gets a birdie on a hole with a pink flag, we will donate an extra dollar. HJGT will adjust its normal format for the month and have the older girls tee off right after the older boys. We want to pay special attention to our girls this month and raise funds and awareness at all of the 14 events that we will run during the month of October. We will work in conjunction with all of the individual local affiliates in each one of cities that we will be conducting tournaments. Every week we will post an update of how many birdies were made on holes 9 and 18, how many ribbons were sold, and the total number of donations we received at all our events. We hope that our junior golfers strive to make a birdie so that the HJGT can donate even more money.

HJGT Executive Director Mario Conte states, "The Hurricane Tours is excited to partake in such a special cause that is near and dear to all of our hearts. I have personally been impacted by this disease as my mother is a breast cancer survivor, so I am passionate about donating to this cause and helping to bring more awareness about breast cancer. Come join us in October at HJGT events and show your pride and wear pink on Saturday and Sunday. All the proceeds from our ribbon sales, birdies on pink flag holes, Hurricane Tour Shop pink sales will benefit Susan G. Komen." Holly Gill, Associate Marketing Director for Rally for the Cure says, “We are excited the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour is helping to spread awareness about breast cancer in October. It’s great to see organizations like HJGT getting involved with Breast Cancer Awareness month and encouraging their members to take action. In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. What was started with $200 and a shoebox full of potential donor names has now grown into the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. To date, we’ve invested more than $2.5 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 30 countries. And we won’t stop until our promise is fulfilled. About Rally for the Cure Rally for the Cure is a grassroots program that works to educate women about breast cancer and to remind them to get their annual screening through volunteer organized golf, tennis and social activities. Since its start in 1994, Rally events have reached over 2.5 million people with the important message that early detection saves lives. In addition, fundraising activities at Rally events have generated over $75 million for Susan G. Komen Thanks to programs like Rally, Komen is the largest private funder of community-based breast health education, screening and treatment programs in the United States. The Rally program is facilitated by Condé Nast benefiting Susan G. Komen and is headquartered in Wilton, Connecticut. For more information call 1.800.327.6811 or email email@example.com.
