Orlando, Florida: (Dec 7, 2014) The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Orlando, FL on December 6-7 for the HJGT Girls Tour Championship. Players enjoyed an abundance of sunshine on the difficult Hawk’s Landing golf course. Both divisions competed for AJGA PBE Stars and Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings while the Girls 15-18 Division also competed for Golfweek Rankings. Winners received an automatic invitation into the 2015 HJGT Tour Championship.
In the Girls 15-18 division, on Saturday Jintong Hou of Orlando, FL was able to birdie her final two holes to post an even par 71 and take a two shot lead into Sunday’s final round. Annie Kim would post a two over 73 to sit just two shots back of Hou. On Sunday, Kim was able to make up her two strokes and sent the round into a sudden death playoff on hole 1. Kim had a round total of 72 giving her a weekend total of 145; tied with Hou who had a 74. On the playoff hole, both hit their shots straight down the fairway and landed their second shots about 5 feet away from the pin for a birdie opportunity. Hou putted first and missed her birdie by inches and made par. Kim putted next from the other side of the hole and was able to sink her birdie and win her division in the Tour Championship. Hou lead the pack with the most pars over the weekend with a total of 27. Coming in third in this division was Kanyanat Saithip who had a weekend total of 148, firing a 74 both days. Saithip had the second most pars on the weekend with 26.
The Girls 11-14 division Mimi Chen of Longwood, FL posted an impressive one over 72 on Saturday to lead the pack heading into the final round. On Saturday Chen was -4 in a stretch of nine holes, but would stumble coming in to take a slim two shot lead into the final round on Sunday. Despite her late troubles, she was still able to hold off the next leader, Cindy Kou of Windermere, FL who shot a 72 on Sunday. Chen had an overall total of 146 whereas Kou posted a 147. Placing third place at the Tour Championship was Ariel Yu of Bradenton, FL who shot a 76 and 73 giving her a 149 for her weekend total. Chen and Yu lead the board in most birdies with 5 over the weekend. Kou had the most pars throughout both rounds with 25. Weather: Saturday – Sunny, low of 65, high 77.
