Hartford Junior Classic at Wintonbury Hills in Bloomfield, Connecticut

Putting For Glory
On Friday, August 27th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Bloomfield, Connecticut to host the Hartford Junior Classic at Wintonbury Hills. The weather was beautiful both days, with temperatures in the upper 80s and clear skies. The HJGT would like to thank Wintonbury Hills for allowing us to host our tournament at such a great venue. AJGA stars and Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings were up for grabs this weekend as 58 players were battling for their respective age division titles. As the fog rose in the early morning, players congregated from all over the North East for a chance at an HJGT title.
Boys 16-18 Division

Brendan Smith of Sayville, New York, was the champion of the Boys 16-18 division. Smith was able to capture the crown after firing rounds of 71 and 72 (+3). Chris Ayers of Wethersfield, Connecticut, secured 2nd place after shooting rounds of 74 and 73 (+7). The 3rd place trophy went to Michael Knick of Ridgefield, Connecticut, finishing with rounds of 77 and 71 (+8). Each player had a fulfilling event, competing against some of the top amateurs from around the region and gaining valuable experience that they can take with them to future events. Boys 14-15 Division

Brendan Frain of Sudbury, Massachusetts, took first place in the Boys 14-15 division after shooting rounds of 72 and 77 (+9). Kyle Zere of Ronkonkoma, New York, recovered from an 81 after the first round, to come home with a 74, to secure 2nd place (+15). Rounding out the top 3, Robbie Herzig of New York, New York, finished with rounds of 80 and 78 (+18). All of the golfers had a great time competing against one another and look forward to competing again in the future. Boys 11-13 Division

Cole Ekert of Chatham, New Jersey, won the boys 11-13 division after finishing with two solid rounds of 72 and 75 (+7). Finishing in 2nd was Tyler Zere of Ronkonkoma, New York, shooting 75 and 80 (+15). Both players showed that they are able to overcome the challenges that may arise while playing such a competitive event, and were able to play some great golf throughout the weekend. These young gentlemen will continue to follow their passion on and off the field. Girls 14-18 Division

Rina Jung of Briarcliff Manor, New York, won the Girls 14-18 division after firing rounds of 74 and 72 (+6). Coming in 2nd was Eunice Kim of Edgewater, New Jersey, finishing with rounds of 75 and 74 (+9). Finishing in 3rd was Morgan Hennessy of Bronxville, New York, with rounds of 77 and 73 (+10). All of the golfers had a great time competing against one another and look forward to competing again in the future. Everyone had a great time and made the most out of their experience. Girls U13

Amelia Shen of Tenafly, New York took first place in the Girls under 13 division after shooting rounds of 72 and 81 (+13). Following Shen, it was Muskan Manikkar of Bridgewater, New Jersey, who finished 2nd after posting a total of (+29). Coming in a very close 3rd was Bimba Carpenter of Wenham, Massachusetts, with a final score of (+30). Each player gained valuable experience, that will assist them in future events and all of them showed what true sportsmanship is all about. Weather August 27-28, 2016: Round 1: Low 62, High 87. About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
