Greg Norman Champions Golf Academy Jr. Shootout June 23-24

Gardner Pulls Through In Playoff; Gore Uses Consistent Play to Take Title   Myrtle Beach, SC (June 24, 2012)- The HJGT traveled to Myrtle Beach this weekend to host the Greg Norman Champions Golf Academy Jr. Shootout from the beautiful Resort Course at Grande Dunes. This tournament featured over 80 players from North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Georgia. This tournament was ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and the winners of the Boys and Girls 15-18 Division received one AJGA exemption. The weather was beautiful both days, windy on Saturday and very humid on Sunday.   The Boys 15-18 Division proved to be the closest contested division, and was eventually won in a playoff by Greg Norman Champions Golf Academy student Anthony Gardner of Myrtle Beach with a 2-day total of 150 (78+72). Gardner led the field in Par 3 average (2.88) and was second in most pars for the tournament (25). Taking home second was Robert Ferira of Charleston, SC with a 2-day total of 150 (75+75), falling by a stroke in our playoff. Ferira led the field in Par 4 performance (4.05) and was third in most pars or better (75%). There was a 3 way tie for third place with Shane Visram of Windermere, FL (74+77), Charles Dallery of Sumter, SC (74+77) and Grant Edwards of Monroe, NC (75+76) all carding a 151. Visram played the par 5’s to a perfect par average; Dallery lead in most pars or better (86.1%) and Edwards had 26 pars or better (72.2%).   Ann Elizabeth Gore of Lexington, SC captured the first place trophy in the Girls 15-18 Division with a 2-day total of 156 (81+75). She used a second round 75 to separate herself from the rest of the field. Gore led the field in birdies (4), Par 4 average (4.10), and most par breakers at 11.1%. Second went to Pendleton Bogache of Myrtle Beach, SC who posted a score of 158 (82+76). Bogache also led the field in numerous categories including pars (21), Par 3 average (3.62), and Par 5 average (5.38). Our third place finisher was Megan Cullip of Charlotte, NC with a 2-day total of 172 (86+86). Cullip was third in most pars (13), most pars or better (38.9%), and Par 4 average (4.70) for the tournament.   The Boys 11-14 Division saw our low round of the tournament by the winner States Fort of Evans, GA who posted a 143 (76+67). This marks Fort’s first win this season after 3-second place finishes. His second round 67 proved to be the deciding factor, as he won by one stroke. Fort led the field in most pars or better (86.1%) and Par 4 average (3.85). Finishing just a stroke behind and taking second was Kohler Karavan of Myrtle Beach, Sc with a 2-day total of 144 (74+70). Karavan was the division’s leader in birdies (8), Par 3 performance (2.88) and par breakers (25.0%). Karavan also posted the division’s only eagle over the weekend. Taking home third was Will Sheppard of Mt. Pleasant, SC who carded an overall 146 (74+72). Sheppard was second in most pars or better (83.3%) and Par 4 average, as he played them to perfect par.   Our Girls 11-14 Champion was Kathleen Sumner of Charleston, SC who posted a 2-day 173 (88+85). Sumner’s 3 shot improvement helped her hold off the rest of the field. Sumner led the field in pars (15), pars or better (41.7%), Par 4 average (4.85), and Par 5 average (5.38). Rylie Marchman was the second place finisher, using a 15 shot improvement to end up at 179 for the tournament (97+82). Marchman led her division in birdies (2), most par breakers (5.6%) and Par 3 average (3.12).
